I have also never stamped anything. I set my status to non-practicing so I don't have to do the continuing Ed portion. But I keep paying the fee just in case I ever want to go back.

Part of me wants to go to utilize my Freedom and shout them down, course I don't reckon the attendees will be supportive of my Freedoms

From a company perspective does gives them a higher tier from a career ladder perspective? I was a ‘software architect’ at my last job which was a higher level (even though my degree is Engineering). Probably broke some architecture society rules

Not entirely false either; to call yourself an architect in Alberta you have to be registered with the AAA. I guess this same discussion can pertain to that terminology too.

Yet you can call yourself Premier with no special qualifications at all.

My company pays everyone’s dues. Otherwise, I’d just let mine lapse - besides, my wife has hers for BC and Alberta, so I’d still get to take advantage of the limited benefits.

No idea, seems to be a job requirement though. And to hang out with other dick engineers who are arrogant far beyond their actual worth.

I also haven’t stamped anything before. I don’t even own the stamp…
Company pays for dues and I get the hours just though working and associated things so i don’t even think about it.

Never owned a stamp either, but I do get benefits from the discounts and stuff from my APEGA membership. Plus getting to have some alphabet soup after my work email signature.

I haven't practiced since 2015 but have kept my membership current mostly because the savings from the auto insurance and life insurance is greater than the $400 I pay in dues every year. I also never ordered a stamp when I passed my test.

So in summary, y'all have licences to practice but never use them because you get the benefits of being a licenced professional either way.
Why do your companies pay the dues if you never actually stamp anything? Because they want your clients to have the impression that you know what the #### you're doing.
This is at the heart of why the "tech" industry wants unfettered use of the title "software engineer": because they want to use the good-will associated with the professional title "engineer", to give the impression that they know what the #### they're doing, but they don't want people to have to actually go to the trouble of getting licenced. It's the exact same reason chiropractors and naturopaths lobbied to be able to use the title "doctor": to ride on the coattails of actual medical doctors to legitimize what they do.
I've known many engineers who never stamp anything and think APEGA's dues are a "scam", and to them I always say: if you "don't want to have to pay the twats" at APEGA for a licence, don't! See what happens. You'll quickly figure out the worth of the licence...
And that's why APEGA has to vociferously defend the exclusive use of "engineer". To let anyone use it just cheapens it, and the public will get bamboozled by unqualified people pretending they know WTF they're doing.

It is stupid how much cheaper The Personal has been for APEGA members. Was $800 more expensive with TD for my home/auto when they attempted the rate hike compared to the APEGA group rate.

Our auto and home insurance went down a fair bit with the switch from TD Meloche Monnex to The Personal although it was still really cheap with TD. The only thing that was weird was that my condo insurance would have been more expensive with The Personal so I kept that policy with TD.
I've dealt with TD a couple times on claims and it was a very smooth and easy process but I've heard from friends that The Personal can be pretty painful. Hopefully I never have to actually make a claim to find out myself.

I just cancelled my professional membership in October because I changed jobs to be a software engineer and I don't need the p.eng anymore. I'll report back if anything happens.

This is my entire point in a nutshell. Why aren't you a "software developer" or a "programmer"?
