Well at least they doubled their goal total. Going to be hilarious when they best the Oilers.

I just saw on Twitter that the last team this happened to was also the Sharks in 1993, the second game being a 13-1 loss to the Flames.

Edit: wasn’t 10 goals back to back, but rather 20 goals against in two games. They lost 7-3 the game before.

Austin Matthews almost has as many goals as the sharks.

Hopefully they are proud of making a mockery of the league with their “rebuild”.

I'm thinking of going to see the Flames in SJ. The tickets ought to be cheap and theres even a decent chance the Flames might even get a win.

Whoa now. I get the cheap ticket assumption. But lets not get too carried away.

A single point in this stage of the season is pretty unprecedented. But I can appreciate and respect how they went into this rebuild. They saw the writing on the wall years ago and have been prepping their fanbase, ownership and sponsors of the looming rebuild. They have done a solid job executing it from a PR standpoint and you won't find a Sharks' fan anywhere who has any kind of expectation of success for the next few seasons. Just suck as much as possible and accumulate without any quick-fix signings on the roster.

Selling off Karlsson after winning the Norris was especially masterful. Get a 1st rounder and they can easily flip Hoffman and Granlund at the deadline for a haul. Imagine for once in my lifetime the Flames selling high on a player who just had a season like that. Unfathomable around here. As for Hoffman and Grandlun, doesn't matter they are both having brutal seasons. All Doug Wilson has to do is say "Look how bad our team is, these guys will flourish on a good team!".

Just ride that rebuild for the next few years without a pressure in the world, and they will still be a highly sought after destination when they are ready to contend. I'm jealous of them TBH.

The question is, after dipping this low, how fast can they pull their nose up?

I sometimes wonder what the NHL would look like if there was no reward for losing.
Imagine a league where draft order was completely random for example, there would be no tanking.
It is strange to watch games, especially late in the season where a team has more benefit in losing than winning.

The Flames strategy would make sense in that universe haha

What? SJ recently signed vets to massive contracts and do t have nearly as many picks or prospects as they should considering how bad they are. Team just sucks. They were lucky to fool the league on EK

Mike Greer is their GM fyi

San Jose is a great example of how a quick rebuild for the Flames is very unlikely. SJ started from a similar point, in that they had a lot of older vets on heavy contracts. Once they realized their window was closed, they started moving the vets for pieces. Great.

But this will be the 5th year of missing the playoffs, and they are just now bottoming out. It's safe to assume at least 2 or 3 years at the bottom, before they start looking to crawl their way out of the basement. By the time they see playoffs again, it will have been 8-10 years, at best.

You could argue if they bottomed out earlier and started drafting elite players 2-3 years ago, they'd be further along than they are now. Of course nothing is guaranteed but their odds would have been far better.

They've been working on it for a while, but bottoming out isn't as easy as fans assume - players have contracts (and NTCs)
