If you need to get a long-term deal done with a star player in the offseason, there are always ways to make bad cap hits disappear.

Say what you want, but those are Canuck fans. The most miserable hockey fans you can ever imagine.
Every time they play the Flames in the first round, all they talk about on the radio is who they're going to play in the second round.

Worst fans in Canada -- no, the entire NHL.

Canuck and Flames have met once in the playoffs since 2004, it was 8 years ago, weird thing to remember

They've only played 7 times which is a little odd considering they've been in the league together for over 40 years. Flames are 5-2.

I thought that they would show a lot of improvement over last season, and they do have a few elite-level players to continue building around. Hughes, Pettersson and Demko mainly. They made some decent moves in the off-season too.

However, I do think that they will also come back down to earth. Flames and Oilers will probably not continue losing this badly, and Vancouver probably won't continue winning this often. It is definitely a great start for them, and this is their best chance in a while at making playoffs. Will be interesting to see if they fall back down, or if they continue finding ways to win. It is an impressive start, whether or not you want to say it was lucky.

 I still hate them though.

i am no Canucks fan but i do hope they can sign Petersson. The trend of great players leaving Canada hopefully will not continue. Someone did up a fictional contract value and compared the taxes in Canada and they used Florida, which is the best case. The difference was insane, even more than i thought it would be. so i do get it.

The tax differences are way overblown, according to multiple NHLers and executives, especially when you factor in cost of living and exchange rate.
For example, maybe they’re taxed more in Canada than Florida. But they get paid in US dollars, so a $2M home in Canada is only going to cost them $1.4M of their actual salary.

More than that there are all kinds of tax rules based on what your home residence is, because so much work in the NHL is done on the road. There are other tax exceptions players can use by investing or deferring their income.
This isn't 1980, NHL players have top of the line accountants before their first paycheck clears.

I will give the Canucks a little bit of credit for buying in and playing well. Yeah it is early, but credit where credit is due. I am only being this generous because I think they broke the Oilers.

I will throw some no goodness in here so it doesn't become a love fest.
The canucks put a person in charge of a $5M reno that has no project management experience and little to no experience in anything outside of the patchbay. Actually, they didn't put them in charge they stepped up and did the job because
nobody else was doing it. Imagine leaving somebody with no technical experience whatsoever in charge of hanging a new score board? Just bonkers to me.

My old boss is pretty much useless and is just sitting back and collecting a pay cheque. The operational side of the business is a mess.
