Yeah, there was a Cedar's Deli right by my office which I'm relatively confident was a criminal enterprise...but they're all closed now I think?

I went today for the first time. It was definitely really good and would have been in the rotation, but I paid $25 for 4 pieces and a fries. That is ludicrous, and I will not be back because of that, unfortunately.
Twenty five ****ing dollars for a personal meal with no drink. Get ****ed.

Looks as open as it ever did when it was new.
Was your office there when the guy used to protest the Esso Car Wash from the other side of the road about how terrible their car wash is?

Unfortunately, yep.
Back in 2021, somehow we got wind it was "National Fried Chicken Day" (July 6th, BTW) and thought "what a good excuse to get some chicken"... Since it was mid-COVID, we thought it would be best to support local, so I head to the (now former) Cluck and Cleaver in the West Springs Co-Op... $120+++ later, I had my dinner for my family to mark the occasion... and that was the last time I went to Cluck and Cleaver.
I suppose I wasn't the only one that felt that way, as they've now vacated Co-Op... Salt in the wound is the KFC across the street that will give you more food for 1/3 of the price, kinda like a single meal at KFC would probably be ~$8 instead of $25... granted, KFC's quality falls short, but not that short.
I'm all for supporting independent, local businesses over a chain, but if your business model means you need to charge 3X what the market perceives to be the going rate, perhaps you should reconsider your business... Or the market will make that decision for you.

Yeah, I glanced at some $55 family packs, except they didn't appear to be enough for a family. Their prices are bonkers. The other annoyance was ordering off their site.
I was ordering at 12:50 today, and was 5 mins from the walden location. The only options for pick up or contactless car pick up was a 1:30-1:45 window. I decided to go in and there was only one couple in the store with staff just chatting with each other. I asked her about the delivery window and how far out it was and she confidently defended it with "well, yeah we need time to prepare and make the order and ensure it's ready for the customer".
Okay, but that's ridiculous. I ordered in store and you said five minutes. But if I make the same order from my car outside suddenly you need 40-55 minutes? Like how the **** does that work?

Yeah, this thread just reminded me that we took the kids out for lunch after school last friday for a nice, sit down lunch at a "trendy" place on 17th and... paid less than what it would have cost at C&C.
Bonkers indeed. Too bad.

Yeah, it sucks because the chicken is actually decent, but not $25 a person decent. Too bad, I won't be back even though I like it. There's paying extra for good, local food (which I'll do when I can) and then there's "you need to be a top 20% earner in Calgary to justify the bill".
Prices and frustrating ordering make it a great chicken place that I won't be back to. That's super annoying to me, because I really like to find good chicken in Calgary.

Is $25 for a meal that out of line? Compared to Wow, Ogam, Church’s or Fritou, C&C is not that far off for a 4 piece meal, except maybe the drink thing.

Fritou is $16 for the same meal. Wow and Ogam are closer to $20 I believe.

No. I mean...it is the 'Hood and thats not outside the realm of possibility because that Esso Car wash does suck something fierce...
But if he was protesting across the street he'd be on CP land and if theres one thing I've learned in my years in the Hood...you do NOT mess with the goddamned Train Cops.
They are like the RCMP without the sense of humour.

It's $14 for a 4 piece "Our Speciality", with fries and 2 corn fritters at Chicken on the Way.
Is C&C better? Maybe. Is it 80% better? Hell no.
Dollar for dollar, it's still the best fried chicken in town. (IMHO) Still locally owned to boot.

I am not sure the last time you were at Chicken on the Way, but I would argue that the chicken is awful there and I'd rather pay an extra 80% for any of the other non-KFC options.
I am not sure what the problem is with them (original location specifically), though I am sure it's a result of the basement shenanigans. It seems like either they're not changing out their cooking oil, ever; it's being cooked way too long; or the pieces are too large to deep fry properly. I mean, it's great that the pieces are so big, but it's not great that it's like eating what could be generously described as chicken jerky.
I still like the fritters, but I have actually picked up fried chicken from one restaurant, and just gotten fritters from COTW.

We stopped getting Chicken on the Way once we discovered Ogham. It’s a bit more expensive, but far, far better.

I love when COTW has their $0.15 fritter sales.

I pretty much only order fritters and fries at COTW and ignore the chicken.

I was going to chime in by saying the best fried chicken I've had in Calgary was Olive Chicken on 10th, but I looked it up and it's permanently closed? Brutal. I assume it's another casualty of covid.

The chicken on it's way in Crowfoot is a lot better than the Kensington one. It's not as dark as I think they change the oil more often so it looks a lot cleaner and tastes better.

$3.25 for the beef.
Why in the hell do asian 7/11's have better sandwiches than North American ones. Be better whities!
