I tend to ignore the political threads now that Yoho and his fellow lemmings have essentially destroyed them for people with functioning brain cells. Every once in a while I check in, though, and never cease to be amazed at the depths of utter stupidity to which he/they are able to sink.

Look, if you run a business in Alberta, you are forever a friend of the UCP. The shell companies created by lobbyists who win favor from Danielle's position not withstanding, fellow titans of industry like W. Brett Wilson - whom shares a loving affection for the Prime Minister with Theo - also doesn't leave a scorched earth with billions in orphan wells for taxpayers to clean up, no sir-ee.

I’m sure John Doe living in Nova Scotia is itching to cast his vote for Trudeau, because Smith go elected in Alberta.
Again, I do hope the Liberals campaign on it!

So narrowminded. I guess there aren't many smart right wingers around anymore. You better believe the Libs will campaign on it!
Heads up! polls say the Cons have a 97% chance to form a majority gov't! that's a guaranteed win! Take my $500 bet at 1 to 1 odds that the Cons won't form a majority gov't next election. lol Free money!

Not that you'll even look at it, but it's not like it's too hard to find, unless you're a complete sock puppet.

I suspect your retort will be something along the lines of "Like I would believe the publicly available information that is, by law, made available to all Canadians. I want to see the real numbers, but Trudeau will never show us those, cause he's stolen them somehow..."

Between 2013-2022, the CPP posted the highest rate of return for any pension fund worldwide. There is absolutely no way a newly created APP can top that even in the impossible scenario where it remains independent of UCP coffers.
https://www.cppinvestments.com/for-c...-in-the-world/
There is a reason DS is pushing so so hard for the APP despite huge public opposition. She's resorted to manipulating the stupid into creating backing for the APP by asking biased "do you like to make money?" type questions in surveys to pump up support numbers, while refusing to ask questions like "do you want to exit from the CPP?". Guaranteed its her payday plan and she's not currently hitting her retirement targets.

And for the uninitiated on the Alberta Heritage Fund when compared to the Norway Government Pension Fund. Norway modeled their plan on the AHF and started off with the same amount of capital, and then successive Conservative governments robbed every Albertan of that wealth. This is gross economic mismanagement looks like.

The value has remained steady at $4K/capita and a total value of $20B for awhile now. Meaning the UCP is siphoning off nearly every bit of money the AHF generates and putting that into general revenue. The Norway fund on the other hand is now worth over $1.5Trillion and over $192K/capita. It outperforms even the Chinese Sovereign Wealth Fund which is fed by over a billion people when Norway is only home to 5.5 million.

Full credit to Danielle Smith on content here. She was spot on with everything she said. Nuclear can’t get built in time, and batteries are merely a cute solution to manage hourly and mayyyyyybe daily volatility. They aren’t a solution for the 2 week long cold fronts in the winter where the wind doesn’t blow much and the sun isn’t up. It’s so frustrating seeing everyone unable to overcome their hatred for her on this one and actually try to understand the issue.

I would have an easier time believing her if the governments over the last 20 years actually tried to entice nuclear energy into the province.
Sure, it's not going to get built in 12 years, but we might as well get a start on it. I find this (and past) governments lack of movement on electricity in general extremely disheartening.
It's alot like the current flames. I would be able to a accept a bad team if i knew there was something coming in the future. But right now, its a bad team with no semblance of a path forward.

Rather than arguing about dates, I’d rather our governments agreed on the urgency to act and put some real effort towards the end state, no matter what the date ends up being.

100%. However an offsetting factor would be that, with our young working population, contributions would have more time to grow before being withdrawn.
I’m not saying that makes it a good idea. Just that, objectively, that would help offset the lower returns vs the superior management of CPP.
I’ve stayed in here I’m opposed, but I’d sure love to see some clearly laid out math to help inform my stance a little further.
Objectively assessing the content of things instead of frothy tribalism. Something the world and this thread needs more of.

Those that would be doing the math for the APP calculated that the Alberta portion of the CPP is 53%.
They get an F at math with an answer like that.
I don't want someone who fails at math to be in charge of my pension.

This weekend begins a new age in Alberta. The Age of Democracy. After this AGM, the grassroots of the UCP will be in charge. Those who do not listen to the grassroots or attempt to thwart their involvement in the decision making process, will be removed from power.
