But "just a game" is poor branding when your demographic is avid sports fans.
The way barn burner is presented by comparison gives the impression of a good time. I'm not sure what to make of Rob's show and why I should be tuning in. That's a problem.
Would have worked better if it was a collaboration with other personalities with a different title.

Plus the vibe of their show translates well to Youtube and as the show has gone on it's just gotten better and better. It's a can't miss show at the moment.
I would catch Kerr's show now and than and I think it's unfortunate that it didn't work out but I mostly found it wasn't for me. Lots of the time I found he vibe was very "Angry Man Yells at Clouds" and I felt it was a much more balanced show when he had a co-host or guest for the entire show. Kerr also didn't have a built in audience like the Barn Burner guys did. He was away from 960 for a long time.

I was not a big fan of Kerr when he went to television play by play and found him unlikable when he came back to the FAN. Very much loves to hear himself talk. I admittedly only ever listened to his show when he had Conroy on for an hour but other than that I had no interest.
I am almost exclusively listening to Barnburner on the pod via Spotify and I try to listen to it everyday. Sometimes the work schedule doesn’t jive or they take too long to get their POD up after the show ends. I still rank Pat’s FlamesTalk as the number 1 flames related podcast but I do very much enjoy Barnburner.

I don't mine Kerr, except he does give off the "old man yelling at clouds" vibe sometimes. His guests were pretty good, and he's a pretty good interviewer.
But he doesn't have the same draw as Barnburner. BB makes listening to them fun, I think they have great chemistry. Kerr's just too "meh" to be interesting all the time IMO.

Barn burner is almost a must listen for me, especially with Seravelli on there. Loved his story about flying home on the red eye last night. They need to get Wills on there to tune him up, his pollyanna takes gotta go.

I like Kerr, but there were large segments on which he would indulge in social issues/sports/personalities that were clearly dear to his heart but lacked mainstream appeal.
It really felt like his show lacked structure to me but I'm certainly not an expert on broadcasting.

Barnburner is fantastic. As someone who doesn't live in Calgary, it would be rare for me to make the effort to find an online stream of SportsNet 960. Now I've got flames centric talk showing up the same places I consume all my other content, largely on apple podcasts and YouTube. And these guys bring real talk to the table. Not beholden to the organization and can say what they want without tip toing around criticism.

I have no clue what that equates to in terms of success or monetary value though (absolutely no knowledge on these platforms).
Flamesnation only has 7k subscribers on YouTube so you have to assume the viewership is good for thier current reach.

10k weekly doesn’t generate much revenue. The average Youtuber make $18 per thousand views. I doubt the sponsors are paying much either - maybe a couple hundred bucks per spot. Safe to say Boomer and Pinder are being supported by their spouses.

Doubtful. They seem to have pretty legit sponsors.
I'm not sure if a crappy season is good or bad for their ratings. The worse we are the more I wanna tune in to hear Pinder and Rhett though.

Sponsorships can take many forms. In some cases it can be something as simple as gifts in kind. Their audience is not large enough to justify a lot of paid advertisers.
I suspect none of these guys are relying on this for real income but instead are doing it for the fun of it and for the passion. Which is wonderful.

It's not their own podcast. They're run by flamesnation (flamesnation.ca) and in turn the nation network.

Barnburner was great today. It's kind of therapeutic to hear them vent and say the same things a lot of us are thinking.

Point still stands. If Flames Nation isn't making money from this thing, I doubt they are paying those guys much.
Hard to make $$$ in podcasting.

Yeah they're definitely not rich but I'm sure they make around the average salary (65k) and probably don't have to put in a full 40 hours a week.

They barely made that when they were getting a regular salary from Rogers. I doubt they’re making a quarter of that from Barnburner. Seriously, 10k subscribers/listeners is nothing for a Youtube channel or podcast. Just like 95 per cent of the other Youtube channels or podcasts you listen to, it’s just a hobby for the creators.

They get their money from sponsors though. Its different then 95% of other youtube channels. They probably spend most of their time finding and keeping sponsors happy.

Didn't watch a lot of It's Just a Game with Rob Kerr, but I did make an effort to watch the shows he had Peter Maher on. Hope he sticks as the occasional guest host for the Afterburner shows at least for whenever Pinder, Rhett and Boomer can't be on.

Caught the Wills segment this morning on my drive to work. You know he's a nerd when you can tell even Russic thinks he's dorky.
