I was a believer heading into 2018-2019 as well, and then the Colorado series happened. I knew that core wasn’t going to win a championship. And they proved it again two years ago when they were manhandled by the Oilers.

Markstrom doesn't pumpkin and the Flames might've run away with the series right from the start.

Markstrom going full pumpkin opened the door for the oilers and he/they never looked back. No team was winning a series in front of a guy that leaky.

2022 team was legitimate IMO. They ran over a lot of top teams.

I think he's struggling right now too and getting him more confidence and goals as a pro might be smart.

"Cup or bust" has not been the standard fans have set at any point in the past 33 years.

Making it out of the 2nd round only once in a 33 year span (likely to become a 40 year span) is what fans are frustrated about.

Markstrom certainly did us no favours, but we were getting walked by Connor and Leon. I mean, a lot of teams can say that, but that series was bad. Chucky and JG were invisible after game one as well.

Kinda lucky that they've done it right out of the gate too, otherwise we could have another 15%+ of our cap locked in.

Maximizing the value of our 25-27yr old assets that won't be here or have pending legal issues that pose a risk is prudent in my opinion. Trading guys like Andersson, Mangiapane and Dube for futures becomes appealing given their age and cap at this point. Backlund on a good year is moveable too.

The best returns are typically pre-xmas for big pieces. Let's spread the return out over 3yrs too. 1st's in 2025 + 2026 drafts should be considered.

lol wow so amazing, most cores won't win the cup FFS. I can tell you a bunch of current cores that won't win a championship and be correct about 95% of them

I couldn't agree more with how unnecessary the personal attacks are, but I think you go too far with talking about how no one wants to play in Calgary. There is no need to play the victim card for that IMO.

There are far worse hockey markets, In fact, in another thread you pointed out how Gio and Monahan signed sweetheart deals to play in TO and Montreal.

And if you go beyond the NHL, I have never heard people use it as an excuse when teams in far tougher sports markets don't win. Did the Phillies just get eliminated because the fans are too hard on them? Most college football players face more scrutiny than any Calgary Flame.

I'm not condoning the stupid crap that people say about athletes. It reflects very poorly on them but in general (especially in Calgary) they are a very small minority. I think your argument would be better served without the fearmongering and excuse making as it just detracts from your point really.
