I might take the reincarnation of Caligula over the current coaching staff at this point.

Wish we could go back to the summer where we couldn't all agree that the Flames were crap stew.

This season could be a true fork in the road. We've argued this is an organization that needs to be dragged into a re-build, and dear god that could be happening. A bad start coupled with the player contracts in place, that really will make it hard to do anything to improve the team, could be just want is needed.
Just have a disaster of the season, and get a high 1st, high 2nd and clarity to deal off as many of the UFAs as you can. If the season is as bad as this, Hanifin and Lindholm wont' re-sign no matter what the number. Good.
Then add guys like Tanev, Zadorov to the pending UFA trade table and you've got a massive opportunity.
I don't think I've been someone to ever actually cheer for losses, but I found myself feeling happy about the loss. I don't like it, but that's where we are.
Keep it going.

Players like Hall were being given away in the summer
Even if its a "bad trade" it was better than signing him. Third round pick is unknown
|
Hall sucks though and has sucked for awhile. Toffoli is a much better player at 2/3 the salary and signed for one less year. All of which makes him a much more attractive trade quantity.

10/10 times with the value of foresight of these first few games, this guy is going to free agency. Like… ouch bro. Bummer.

I thought I read that it was mostly a family decision, and also the C was a factor. I’m sure he knew that it was a possibility they were going to suck.

Reily Smith is a pretty good player and just won a cup...traded for a 3rd. Market was the market
teams obviously weren't banging down the door for Toffoli either
of all the things to complain about this ain't it IMO
guy said sign me to a long term deal (his ask rumored to be ridiculously long) or trade me
guys that will only stay if they are overpaid on money and term don't actually want to stay
Aydar Suniev looks like a player to me too

Had a blast at the game, was definitely a fun event. The flames were ####ing brutal lol. The only thing they hate more than shooting must be winning, so much wasted offensive zone time. I can see why ticket sales are down, watching them play live is brutal without the ability to shut it off. Play like they're just waiting to get scored on, which technically means they found all sorts of success.

What about making a "wall of shame" for anyone that had a negative opinion of anything last season?
That seemed like some good #### too.
I don't blame "negative" people for giving it back a little now that (almost) everyone can see they were right all along.
It's funny to see the same posters who were so gleeful doing wall of shame crap last year now twisting into knots about what's going on with the perfect roster.

Are you implying that I supported the wall of shame?
I thought it was awful and toxic for the board.

we can debate the trade but its not really the hill to die on. They are still way better off than if they signed him.
The fact that he is lighting it up IN A CONTRACT YEAR playing with superstar young players isn't really relevant to the Flames at all. It maybe wasn't the perfect outcome but signing him would have been a thousand times worse.
|
If the third round pick that the Knights got for player who averaged 52 points per 82 games over the past 3 years and a player who is signed for two years at 5 million is nothing what is a third AND Yegor for a player who averaged 65 points per 82 games over the past 3 years and is only signed for 4.25 million?

Was just commenting that it gave people that similar feeling of glee as the I told you so's are getting now and hopped off from your post to make that note. Wasn't implying it was you.

Not sure why you are grouping me with him. I don't mind Dino. He can do what he wants, but I've never been someone to shy away from being critical of the team.
I've been pro re-build for years, but have recognized the team wasn't going to do it unless dragged into it.
I've called this franchise one of the worst run in the entire NHL.
i was pro BT yes, which I guess is the unforgivable sin for some around here.

what the hell are you talking about??
market was soft...guy wanted a retirement contract or a trade
trade certainly wasn't the worst option
Aydar Suniev looks like a fun prospect too
