He's actually a pretty smart player, he likes to hang onto the puck until a teammate gets open unlike Dube who treats the puck like a hand grenade.
He's a pass first guy but also has some puck skills.

If the Flames were at the cap floor, I would have the same motivation to watch as I do now.
Interesting that no team is currently at the floor. I suppose that's a good thing?

Spending doesn’t guarantee wins. Spending smartly does.
Flames are always in a rush to get to the cap as if it’s a good thing.

Spending smartly doesn’t guarantee wins. There are no guarantees.

I think the best way to describe him is like Dube he's way to inconsistent so your likely bang on with the work ethic issue.
A Frost/Dube trade might be best for both players/teams as they might wake up.

Dawson Mercer has no points in his first 7 games, despite getting decent ice-time. I know they won't be trading him anytime soon, but my fantasy would be that the Devils deem him to be expendable....

Nobody can stop us from dreaming.....
Kent Johnson is another one- only 2 points in 6 games, scratched twice, and getting 3rd line minutes.

I'd be happy with hanifin-mercer, lindholm-johnson 1 for 1s.

You absolutely take both deals.
Dawson Mercer has been relegated to the third line this season but is already a top 6 player (better on the wing but can play centre)
Johnson has #1 centre potential so there isn't much of a debate to be had here.
We could also retain with Hanifin to help the devil's cap wise to facilitate the deal.

Of course there are no guarantees.
But spending smartly is better than spending dumb.
Drafting well is better than drafting poorly.
Working hard is better than playing soft.
It's all about increasing one's chances of success.
