Icon41 Joe Thornton officially retires

https://twitter.com/user/status/1718391328911016252

Sucks he never won a cup. Still one of the best playmakers to ever play:

1 Art Ross
1 Hart
1,539 points
1,109 assists
Leading point scorer of the 2000's (Iggy is 2nd)

Thornton will now have more time to spend as the new bassist for ZZ Top.

I liked him even more when he grew his grandpa beard and refused to shave it off.

Respect for Thornton for making it to 6th in all-time games played while still being a useful player in his final years. Even more respect for not hanging on and basically just existing so he could climb higher up the games played list like a certain teammate of his.

Honestly, there are times I've hated the Sharks, but I cant remember a point in time where I've had anything but respect for Joe Thornton.

He was truly one of the good ones.

That was totally the way I expected Jumbo Joe to announce his retirement.

We should all unzip our pants and celebrate his career the way he would if he scored four goals.

Is this a shot at Marleau?

Agreed. I mean, lets be honest for a moment...how many people could realistically rock that hat?

You do you Jumbo Joe...Via Con Dios!

Looking back you’d have thought that at least one of those Sharks teams manages to win a Cup, but they obviously never did. Kinda wild.

In an alternate universe where Sutter traded for him and paired him with Iginla...

Feels like he scored 300 goals against the Flames, and every one of them was another dagger in the back that never landed as an actual lesson. Congrats to one of the few who tried to help this franchise learn, despite its best efforts against itself.
