After all the controversy and kerfuffle, turns out Sutter was right. Huberdeau is taking a giant ####

Conroy should scare the players if they don't have record 10-5 in November, he will bring back Sutter.

Interesting how Huberdeau and Kadri are always MIA for media after a loss.

There no justifiable hockey reason for Lindholm or Hanifin to want to commit the next eight years of their lives to this.

Canadian markets suck.
Then stop sucking. Canadian markets are great when you play well.

This is actually something that's been bugging me for a while. When in Colorado, Kadri had very particular linemates, and absolutely dominated.

Lehkonen - Kadri - Rantenen

The Flames don't have a Rantenen, but they do have a Lehkonen in Coleman. The closest alternative to Rantenen in Calgary might be Mangiapane. Since Backlund can play with absolutely anybody, why not try to recreate that second line? That would put Sharangovich on the first and Dube/Conanato with Backlund.

Huberdeau - Lindholm - Sharangovich
Mangiapane - Kadri - Coleman
Dube - Backlund - Coranato
Greer - Ruzicka - Deuhr

I mean, do we want to win?

Offensive system is a variation on Sutter's, but the execution is terrible.

Bobbled passes, passes in skates, hesitations on decision making long enough to muck up the planned pass, move, or zone entry and then usually mena a turnover. Failure with not executing itself brings lack of confidence and that makes things worse.

And that's ignoring the top guys trying too hard to make things different than last year.

Kadri at 7M is clearly here to be the long term answer at 2C. He's here to do heavy lifting on defense and add significant secondary scoring to take pressure off the first line. Why is he playing like he doesn't have a role?

What an absolute stinker of a game. A 10% effort level game from virtually all skaters except Markstrom and a select few. Doesn’t seem like they even care that they suck right now either, seems like they’ve all accepted that this will be a lost season and they’re ok with it. Pretty shocking how checked out most of this team seems to be and we’re not even 1/10th of the way done yet.

When you work hard even. Hathaway was a perfect example. Byron was a perfect example. Tkachuk and Gaudreau worked hard and were just good.

I don't ever recall this team being booed 8 games into the season, and only the third home game. Am I forgetting another time?

I find myself getting nostalgic over the 90's 'Young Guns' Flames. At least that team had some jam, and provided some entertainment.

I actually wrote a long post here, but deleted it. It doesn't matter. John Bean can have another cringy presser saying Oileresque nonsense instead. I really do miss Ken King.

I feel sorry for Conroy. There is absolutely nothing that he can really do about this right now. I am sorry, but it is blatantly obvious that Treliving was a poor GM. Conroy has his hands tied. Even if he got ownership to buy-into a rebuild today, he can't announce it this early in the season. This is going to be a long and difficult time for him as a GM at least until it is closer to the trade deadline.

It is starting to feel like a race against time somewhat. Eventually those boos will run out, and when they do, that's called apathy. Fanbases are like nuclear power plants in a way. It takes a while to shut one down, but it can take a long while to start them up again too. You want to just keep things running as best as you can, but putting an incredibly boring team on the ice and telling people it is going to go well is setting yourself up for a meltdown.

There weren't many meltdowns during the rebuild. In fact, people applauded some of those hard-working losses. I remember that. Contrast those times to what we saw on the ice, and heard from the crowd.

Oh, I forgot to add - I totally feel sorry for Solovyov. Kid's first NHL game, and he looked like he belonged. In hindsight, I do wish that the crowd waited until the next home game to boo - not that the team didn't deserve the boos. Just feel sorry for the kid having his first NHL game contain that memory.

I wouldn’t be so quick to defend Oiler fans as they were definitely cheering for losses during their dark years and would celebrate draft lotteries like winning the Stanley Cup. Expectations this year for both clubs are far different.
I actually have no issues with boo birds, sometimes teams deserve it (Flames and Oilers both did tonight)

And when a team is out of the race I have no issues with cheering for losses to get the best possible pick.

There's a segment of Flames fans that are neither of those things though. They want to see the team, and individual players fail to be able to say "I told you so" or "I was right"

No true Flames fan should be taking joy in Huberdeau or Kadri's struggles right now, any fan should hope those players are both on pace for 100 points.

But certain fans are celebrating their struggles because then they get to say "see I was right" and to me that's what's embarassing.

And it's not just Huberdeau or Kadri. People wanted to do that with Bennett, people were doing it with Monahan ("should have traded him, he's useless") and even Gaudreau at times. And then he ironic part is they are also the first ones to moan about how those guys are gone now and pine for those players.

They just take joy in complaining about the team and then trying to act like they were right or had some grand prognostication that came true.

When really most fans can see this team has flaws, but as a fan you should at least still be cheering for the team to have some level of success. If even at just the individual level to raise a players trade value.
