They will appeal right?

It says that he did not bet on NHL games but he is suspended for gambling but it is okay to bet on non-NHL events.

There won't be an appeal. Per Seravalli, the 41 games was a negotiated settlement between the NHLPA and NHL.

No doubt. Can we get these investigators to turn their attention back to Kane and have him thrown in jail? How the hell did he get away with all of that?

It's ridiculous.
Because if they get in too deeply on another sport, let's say football, and the shadier characters involved in sports betting. Then the "characters" come around and say "we got really good odds on you beating the Lightning tomorrow so screw up and allow a couple goals" then you are screwed.

I can't stand all the sports betting ads and betting itself, but I can definitely see why leagues don't want their players betting on any sport.

Damn. What I would give to see DeNiro take a hammer to his fingers then open a door with his head.

Allegations from his ex-wife. NHL investigated and found nothing.

That was the other charges, the gambling was from multiple casino's suing him and Kane having to declare bankruptcy because of the suits. Either way, still a ###### bag.

This won't be the last player either.

The league is all-in on sports gambling. A dangerous precedent.

NHL wanted the Sharks to get out of the cap hit and for the Oilers to improve their team
last part might backfire lol

I mean they found enough for the Sharks to get out of his contract (while other teams would have to pay a first plus) but not enough to have him sit at all after the Oilers signed him.

hmm

The league says that his actions are damaging to "the integrity of the game", but then don't want to tell us what he did. They give a misleading statement in the graphic: "The NHL found no evidence that Pinto made wagers on NHL games". I am sure that was written in legalize because the league doesn't want us to know what happened because it will "damage the integrity of the game". They want us to come to conclusions like he bet on the NFL or something and it wasn't really that bad. It has to be bad. He was suspended 41 games.

I am sure if we knew all the details, the NHL statement would be technically correct, but I don't trust that it really is correct. They are downplaying what he did to protect themselves.

On 32 thoughts they said he gave his password to a friend who made bets on his account. The website reported the “irregular activity” to the NHL, prompting the investigation.

It’s called proxy betting, and it’s illegal.

If there is one thing the NHL is clearly against it is sports gambling.

The NHL probably couldn't find any irregularities with Kane due to the fact that it is difficult to tell whether Kane is point shaving or if he really is that bad at defense.

The NHL probably wanted him to play for the oilers so he can pay back some of his casino debts and no one really can tell whether it is a team effort at point shaving or whether they are that bad at defense.

Listened to that this morning, Friedman explains it really well. Basically bets were being made from his account in “State X” while his physical location was somewhere else (I would suspect Ottawa). He had someone log into his account and place bets for him (from a state which has legalized sports betting) as his geological location (out of country) would not permit him to make the bets himself.
*For those of us who did not understand proxy betting

I’ll wondering if him agreeing to the 41 games avoided any legal action.
