This article from the Onion has been posted almost every time a mass shooting has happened since 2014. Sadly it's still relevant. What a f***ed up country.

'No Way to Prevent This,' Says Only Nation Where this Regularly Happens

In the hours following a violent rampage in California in which a lone attacker killed seven individuals and injured one other, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Tuesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place.

“This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said New Hampshire resident Lisa Martin, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations.

“It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep this individual from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.”

At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past eight years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”

I'm guessing that this part of the quote needs updating, though:

You are, of course, absolutely right but...Some people suck.

It's being reported that he had recently reported mental health issues, including hearing voices. He was committed to a mental health facility for 2 weeks then released.

Thoughts and prayers, or something like that.

Not to derail this thread, but is MAID available to people with these type of mental problems? Might save lots of innocent lives if it is.

It’s a slippery slope for sure, where does the line get drawn.

MAID would never happen in the US. It's far too compassionate for them, and more importantly, seen as an offense to god.

Doesn't the patient have to be willing in order to recieve MAID?

It is legal in some form in 10 states and DC. It doesn't seem very constructive to discuss encouraging mental health patients to use it though (and would be shooters obviously have the means to end their life if they wanted to).

Schools 80 km away from Lewiston are closed today along with public buildings in Portland. https://apnews.com/article/lewiston-maine-shootings-

New Hampshire State Police are setting checkpoints along the entire NH/Maine border.

Theyve been thinking and praying about this for years now, when do they finally admit that prayer doesnt work? Or that they might be too stupid to think well enough to make a difference?

Admit prayer doesn't work? Lawmakers just elected a religious extremist third in line to the most powerful position in the world. This is all according to plan. They love this. Keeps their people in constant state of fear and worry so they never focus on the real issues. People that are afraid are much easier to control. No need for vaccines for control just whip up a boogie a man and tell them they will feel safer with lots of guns, lots of guns. And prayer. Guns and prayer will keep you safe from the two things that may have willfully killed more people than anything in the history of teh world.

The US is beyond reason at this point.

Maybe they need to bring the pope in to tell them god heard their prayers and wants them to enact some reasonable gun restrictions.

I think people just stopped bumping it for anything under 10 dead.
We're all sadly become numb to this.
