That would be a good bet.

I think the punishment should be greater. It a player gets caught red handed gambling they should be banned from the league.

I know he was betting on other sports, but you have to send a message. 0 tolerance for cheating games.

How are all of you so sure about anything? We have no idea what he did. Or maybe we do and I missed the article.

I read in one of the articles that the league told Ottawa to stop negotiating with him, and that he might just sign his original QO so he can serve the suspension.

If he were betting on games within his own sport, sure.

Pinto betting on an NFL game for example is no different than you or I doing it.

Players in these leagues outright talk about playing in fantasy leagues.. Do you think for a second they are not exchanging money in those pools?

Send him an offer sheet. Flames need good young forwards. Don’t care how they get them.

He could retire as a player and just start doing advertisements instead.

The NHL runs gambling ads during games, they run gambling segments during intermission segments, they run gambling ads on their helmets, jerseys, ice, and boards, but then they act like gambling is some kind of horrible activity?

Get ###### NHL. You created this. You wanted this normalized. This is what you get.

The league HAS to have a very firm and unrelenting hand against players betting - that goes without saying. But then making gambling sites your primary bedfellow for advertising possibly misses the mark a bit, don't you think , Gary?

Agree with hypocrisy everyone is highlighting.

But also....why is the Dec 1 deadline to sign waived for Pinto in this case? It should be a TFB. One has nothing to do with the other.

He is not eligible for an offer sheet.

Sounds like his QO is still on the table, not sure what that was.

right in the article.
"Critically, the league did not accuse of Pinto of wagering on NHL games"

I agree with everyone who says how hypocritical and stupid it is to promote gambling so hard but not allowing their players to do it on non NHL events.

The game has no integrity. If it did, they wouldn't allow refs to manage the games the way they do.

Do any of the other professional sports allow their players to gamble at all?
And do other professional sports also advertising betting?

#### sports betting in general. There's just nothing positive about it.
The NFL did have to re-assess some of their rules. They can bet on other sports and can do so as long as the bet is not made at the team facility...although that one is a bit odd.

These are young guys now who mostly grew up with phones and apps in hand for most of their life. So they're likely more prone to take up the habit.

Leagues will have fun with this for years.

I see two sides to this.

Idiotic to bet on your own sport...if you want to bet then bet on basketball or football or something.

But also so hypocritical of league that shoves sports betting down their throats at every second.

Well I mean it's idiotic overall. If he knew the rules, then why take the risk at all particularly when you don't have a contract.
Kinda dumb.
