Funny how Flames get the shaft and the Oilers get all the gifts. League really looking to grow the game in northern Alberta I guess.

Playing the victim card is just a huge pet peeve of mine. It rarely works out well for people who do it.
Yeah sometimes Flames fans complain too much particularly about the Oilers, but this isn't playing the victim card. Facts are facts and you could see a spike in our calls for and against after the incident. Was there a meeting held "let's get the Flames!" No. Was there still a change in our treatment? Yes, numbers don't lie.

I think it really comes down to the flames really having no marketable players anymore.
Without looking at literally any relevant data, I wonder if it's not that we get punished more, it's that other teams that do have marketable players get the benefit of the doubt/punished less because the league has a vested interest in seeing those players/teams succeed?

And you don’t think the league wants to market its generational talent? Why would you think it has something to do with geography?
We have fans on here arguing the NHL rigged the lottery in favor of the Oilers.

And frankly most people aren't reporting "measured data" on the Wideman hit. It's mainly rants, opinions and charts that are distorted to reflect a desired POV. Did the Flames suffer as a result of one of their players cheapshotting an official from behind and the organization went on record in defending him? No ####, I'm not denying that.

Did Burke's argument help the club? Of course. Is Burke making an argument on behalf of the club evidence of anything? No.

Geez it happened eight years ago and people still can't let go of the victim complex.

Burke still believes there was a bias and no longer works for the Flames if you hadn't noticed. I was pushing back at it being a made up thing by the Fans.

Its a game run by humans, bias exists

If you don't believe it fine, you and spurs can go high five somewhere...many of us see too much evidence to be convinced otherwise

Leagues have their favourites

Colemans ridiculous no goal was the moment I cut NHL spending out of my budget

NHL was already hyping up McDavid vs. Mackinnon, anything even borderline was going the Oiler way but they were pushing it on that one.
Honest question. If it is not worth your money, why is it worth so much of your time and attention?

I have stated this before...love the game, hate how the league is being run...felt cheated at times when paying massive amounts of money.

I once paid $150 for a Flames game in Calgary and traded a losing scratch off ticket for a Panthers game in Florida the same season. Then our drafted and devloped star goes there and they reap the rewards and the league/media now acts like he is the greatest thing around after hating on him for years. Small markets Canadian teams are being taken advantage of IMO.

It's kinda a silly personal protest really but I feel good about not supporting a league that I feel plays favourites with certain teams and therefore certain fans.

Coleman goal was the last straw...pride tape has reinforced my resolve.

I watch a ton of games but the NHL doesn't get a cent from me.

The league wanting the Oilers in the conference finals over the Flames was no secret, and they did what they could in our building full of paying customers to make it happen. People spending over 1000 a seat in some cases. They already had the McDavid vs. Mackinnon promos made lol

Let's not forget when McSorely speared Bullard (I think? or maybe Sheehy?) in the nuts during Game 3 in 88, and the league said they weren't going to review it until AFTER game 4 (when we were already down 3-0 in the series), because they said it wasn't urgent.

I can't remember the full details, but it was something like Game 3 was on Tuesday with Game 4 on Thursday... and on Wednesday, the NHL said they were going to wait until Friday to review the incident for suspension. Ridiculous. McSorely literally broke his stick spearing Bullard in the nuts and the Bullard had to be stretcherd off the ice. I don't even remember if McSorely got any games for it or not, but we were already eliminated before the League even looked at it.

Edit: It was Bullard.

I’ve never understood the running on court

I see players run on the court every week after incidents . Amare didn’t engage anyone a coach grabs him.

Did they change the rule after this ?

Honestly, I'm not sure.

I can't lie, my "give-crap-about-the-NBA" meter took a pretty big hit after that game. Horry only got 2 games for that hit, while Amar'e and Diaw each got a game just for trying to check on Nash.

Duncan and Bowen both left the bench earlier in that very same game and absolutely nothing happened to them. NBA said they had no choice but to suspend Stoudemire and Diaw because "it's the rule"... yet they were apparently a-ok with ignoring Duncan and Bowen.

It's been like 15 years and I still get mad whenever I think about it.

Dirty headshot away from the puck by McAvoy.

It'll be interesting how many games this gets in comparison to Razzy's.

I would think at least 4 games given it was a flyby hit where the puck wasn't even in the picture. It would have been dirty even without the head shot. He is the Bruins best defenseman so maybe he only gets 2 games. Who knows where the wheel of justice will stop?

I'm fine with Raz getting 4 games if they consistently hand out harsher punishment. Let's see what they do here ... anything less than 4-5 games for McAvoy and it's the same old wheel of justice.

Ya but, it's not in the last few seconds of the game, with the game out of reach, so not really a bad hit so let's only give him a fine.
Says DOPS, probably...

(It will be more than a fine. My guess is two games because they have their heads so far up their asses it's not even funny...)

That's my guess. With precedent it should be 4, but since he was given a match penalty in the game it probably shaves a game off.
