Any good recommendations for a horror movie to watch this weekend?
I was thinking either "A Tale of Two Sisters" or "I Saw the Devil", but wanted to see if there were any other recommendations for something scary.
My wife will be picking comedy horrors, so I'm looking for something a bit more unsettling, haha.

Talk to Me was pretty good.

Dunkirk was the most overhyped, worst war movie I have ever seen since the one with sean penn.
Couldn't believe Nolan directed that.
First of all, I wasnt a fan of Dunkirk because I felt it was a mostly a 'Nolan Masturbatory' film. Where he just wants to show off his cool camera and sound work.
But it was still pretty good.
It was no 1917 though. I'm more interested in characters and stories than what Dunkirk had to offer.

I agree, Talk to Me was good.
I love I Saw the Devil. Korean serial killer team up / battle movie.
If you're up for Korean horror, Thirst and The Wailing are both incredible.
The 2018 Suspiria remake was great.
They Look Like People or Daniel Isn't Real if you're in the mood for psychological horror.
Possessor or Infinity Pool if you want something recent and weird.

The Big Short (2015) Ryan Gosling, Steve Carrel, Christian Bale. It's funny... which is wierd because it's about the 2008 housing collapse. Feels a lot like Wolf of Wall Street. They were clever about how they explained the financials (Margot Robbie in a bubble bath). Moves quickly, but so much of it is about the characters.
I loved The Big Short, it's great. So many great scenes in it. I think my favourite is either the scene with Steve Carrell's 'Mark Baum' and Byron Mann's 'Mr. Chau' (the 'CDO Manager') having dinner at a Vegas casino,
CHAU: You okay?
BAUM: No. I actually feel pretty sick. So I'm going to leave.
CHAU: You think I'm a parasite, don't you Mr. Baum? But apparently society values me very much. In fact, let's do this: I'll tell you how much I'm worth, and you tell me how much you're worth.
BAUM: Gahd, you are an incredibly big piece of ####...
[walks over to his associates' table]
BAUM: Short everything that guy has touched. I want half a billion more swaps.
VENNETT: You sure about that? The collateral calls could bankrupt you.
Ah man, I had to go rewatch that "CDO manager" scene on YouTube, it's so good:
VENNETT: Oh boy. Your boss is about to explode.
VINNIE: Nah, he's too curious to explode.
BAUM: Hold on, hold on, hold on. Say that again: CDO 'A' has parts of CDO 'B', and CDO 'B' has parts of CDO 'A', but then they both get put inside of CDO 'C'?
CHAU: Yeah, that one's called "CDO Squared": a CDO of a CDO. Alright? And then there's CDOs made up of the opposite side of the bet you made with your swaps. We call them "synthetic CDOs".
BAUM: What did you s—"synthetic CDOs"?
CHAU: Synthetic CDOs.
BAUM: That is ####ing crazy.
CHAU: It's not; it's awesome.
I love Steve Carrell's performance, just love it. I love the affect in his voice when he says so matter-of-factly "That is ####ing crazy". And Byron Mann was sooooo good playing that ######canoe. I've known too many smug turds in real life who sound just like that.
Old Dads is looking more like an old dud for Bill Burr.
it’s been met with mixed reviews by critics and audiences alike. Case in point: Over on Letterboxd, the film currently averages only 2.5 stars But while many of the reviews were scathing, they were at least funny — some might argue funnier than Old Dads.

Old Dads is pretty good. It's a little heavy handed in that it exaggerates Burr's frustration with society and political correctness, but I like that it's done with more of a focus on his anger being the problem. He's always been pretty self-aware that way.
If you like his comedy then you'll dig the movie. There are some pretty clever lines and dialogue. Watching him die inside with what he hears and has to put up with never gets old.

Bale played his part well, but for me Carrell sold that film.
That being said, absolutely nobody did a poor job in that movie, who was best? Take your pick. Hell...Anthony Bourdain was great!
Yeah everyone was great. Agreed with Carrell being a force. You needed someone like him in that role. Jeremy Strong excellent as well. Brad Pitt's small part is great too.
Gosling just sticks out to me. The scene where he explains it all to them, telling his assistant his too close and the "quantitative" who doesn't speak English. High diving everyone in the gym. Yelling at the guy in the bathroom that he didn't hear anything. Just the perfect smarmy bag that's actually right.

Like I said, you loved Gosling, I loved Carrell..., hell, you could pick almost anyone. Even Carrell's employee with the baseball bat.
Nobody did a bad job. They knocked it out of the park.
What really impressed me was that, as someone who looks upon this period of time in finance almost academically...they did a wonderful job explaining it for everyone in a simple, entertaining yet accurate manner.
It was the best of all worlds.
Funny, well done, historically accurate but accessible to all walks regardless of their level of prior knowledge or information.
If they'd had a post-credits scene of Anthony Bourdain proffering a 'Chef's Kiss' it might have been the best movie of at least the decade.

Jeremy Strong of TV's Succession .
Yeah I think we are similar. You in accounting, I worked in investment finance at the time (the movie itself having a non-zero affect on me leaving). The way they told the complicated story was perfect. People will look back at it as perfect example of that period of time.

Adam McKay is the real star.
I'll give him some credit, but sir...Anthony Bourdain explaining the concept of a CDO was the real star of that film!
Godspeed Tony! Godspeed!
God Damn I miss that man....

And that scene where they go to Florida and the guy answers the door asking why his mortgage is in his landlord's dog's name and that he's been paying his rent and his kid just started school?
There are few scenes in films or shows that make me want to rage-kill someone but that was one of them.
"Honest hard-working, rent-paying guy gets screwed?" Oooh....
