I know I'm being silly here, but out of curiosity I wanted to see what it would look like to buy out Huberdeau....

It's not good. His contract is almost ALL signing bonuses. Like, for example, his NHL salary this season is only 3.5M. The other 7M he's getting this season is a sining bonus. The whole contract is structured like that. 1st, 2nd and 5th years of the contract are all the same: 3.5M salary, 7M sining bonus. The 3rd, 4th and 6th years are even worse: 1M salary, 9.5M signing bonus. The final year is 5.5M salary, 5M signing bonus.

Like, not only is he untradable becuase of his cap hit and lacklustre play... we can't even buy him out, since signing bonuses are just pure cap hit with no reduction.

https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-c...than-huberdeau

Like I said, I know this is silly to even look at, so don't come at me with "lol what a loser, he's literally trying to buyout Huberdeau 7 games into his contract" posts. I was just curious.

It's like firing a guy because he is trying to fit a round peg in a square hole and then defending the new guy when he tries the same damn thing.
Since the Jeta game they lead the league in High Danger chances per 60 at 5v5 with 13.99 HD Corsi For per 60.

The finishing issues remain the same as last year but they have been trying to generate higher quality and are attempting more Royal road passes IMO

I would bet the crappy weather and road conditions had something to do with it.

How it's nice when other teams' star players scoring when the team needs it.
Unfortunately we have nobody.
Backlund, Huberdeau, Weegar, Kadri all think they are skilled player, and tries to play skilled game. No extra step, no extra effort.

Boo….
They'll win that one and justify making some long term signings.
Then when McDavid is back, the Oilers will destroy us again.

I'll accept the criticism of Huberdeau, but this assertion is utter bull****. Huberdeau did everything he could last season to be a Sutter player to the point of being one of the better defensive players in the league after accepting Sutter's challenge.

Let's be frustrated but let's not bull****.

We gave him away for a tweener with an OK shot..

If the GMs of the Calgary Flames could stop nuking the organization that would be great.

Unless they're secretly conspiring to get us multiple top 3 picks, in which case bravo..

- They are 16th overall in expected goals for per 60, and 23rd overall in actual goals for per 60.
- They are in 9th place in expected goals against per 60, and 32nd overall in actual goals against per 60.

Think about that... we're so bad at scoring that we can't even meet such lofty expectations as just simply being average at it. On the other side, we're expected to be top 10 at keeping the puck out of our net, but instead we're the worst team in hockey when it comes to actually preventing goals.

Lol, no they won't. Oilers are worse than the Flames, even with McLotteryball in the lineup.

So they are exactly in the middle in expecting to score, but in the bottom 10 in actually scoring... and they're top 10 in expecting not to be scored on, but the worst team in the NHL in actually being scored on.

In other words, it's Wolf time.

I made a similar comment at the time and the more time that goes by the more I’m convinced that Tre and his guys did little if any diligence on Huberdeau. Saw his stats and got wide eyed.

His plan was to build around these two players, but his miscalculation was that he could take their continued signings for granted because they were young, while choosing to instead sign veterans willy nilly around them while nickel and diming them because they were RFA's.

Miscalculated power move in a world where the brightest, young stars hold all the power.

"let's save $1-2mil per year on our RFA young stars so we can overpay the supporting cast". Bad move.

I switched over to your game after the 'Hawks were stonewalled by Swayman, and saw that Shesterkin had a similarly great game against your guys. The Rags just backed in for the whole 3rd, but, very little seemed to threaten Shesterkin, until Huberdeau skated through his stick, but, then Tanev bailed him with the clear interference in shooting the stick out of the zone, and that, with the Coleman penalty, sealed the outcome.

Over the years, I have seen a lot of inter-conference games where the unfamiliarity of the opponent, and the lack of rivalry passion, leaves the game in the hands of goaltending, Again, I only saw your 3rd period, but it looked like your guys just had no answer for the Rags goalie.

C'mon guys, Toffoli was right in line with the type of re-signing 90% of CP was against. Let's not get revisionist. Sharangovich is not a tweener by any damn standard. C'mon, let's keep our heads on during this time?
