Neither team was one of the top teams in the league, the team last year relying on a great manager and great player keeping them above their level, this year it is luck, refffing and a great player keeping them above their level.

Neither team showing any signs that it will last or that it is sustainable.
In the post I quoted you said it’s not an enormous difference. It’s enormous, and now you’re just being pedantic.

The reality is, Spurs are undefeated and no manager has ever gotten 23 points in his first nine games at the helm. Of course this is after replacing our king-serving captain, the best striker we’ve ever had and a host of of other challenges within the club. How anyone, Spurs fan or otherwise, could somehow characterize this as anything aside from progress is just plain ignorance.

Its 9 games.

If as mentioned by d phaneuf above we finish 5th with no trophies, is that progress? If we finish 4th next year with no trophies progress?

The reality is that most points after 9 games is a meaningless stat, just like last year being our best start in x years didn't stop us from finishing 8th.

The problem isn't that we have got off to a successful start it is that we have done in an unsustainble way, with little hope based on the players and manager we have of maintaining and no clear plan on how the team will improve going forward. So enjoy it now all you want, but to pretend that this is the start of some great time for Spurs when everything points to the opposite is crazy. To build a statue for a guy who built a team that has won nothing, looks like it will never win anything and has massive holes across the squad is insanity.

COYS! Love big Ange.

Don’t expect the Spurs to win any trophies but got to love being top of the table a quarter of the way through the season.

No I am asking what is it?

Although since I never had ridiculous opinions about Spurs then I doubt it was me.

Champions league qualification this season is definitely progress? How is it not

Especially with how bad you think the team is

We had CL progress for years under Poch and even under the god, awful, horrific, disaster Conte. We were headed for CL under Conte last season.

I guess now that they expanded the CL qualification to make it easier some people can celebrate that as progress, but with little chance of competing at all I am not sure how much progress that actually is.

We’ve all sat near someone like this at football games.

I recall someone shouting out that Henry was a bum because he glared at someone who missed a pass rather than run on to it.

That was just one of the many egregious examples throughout the game - it was unreal. It was also during our ‘Invincibles’ season.

Every team has ‘fans’ like this.

I’m not under any delusions that we’re winning the league, but I’m happy we’re doing well and have had a great start to the season. And some of these players are absolutely worthy of praise. Vicario has been immense. Sarr has looked great, Maddison probably the buy of the entire summer across the league, and the list goes on. Other players look rejuvenated under Postecoglou. It’s an enormous difference from where we were last season and you’d have to be blind to gloss over that.
You just explained exactly how I felt about Arsenal at a similar point last season. I don’t mean this in any way as an insult, I’m being genuine. I’m posting from the pov of someone following sport.

If you can’t enjoy this, then following a team is toxic for you.

Yeah, that’s just it. You support a team for years through all the bad times, and they have a good start to the season. If you can’t enjoy them when they’re winning games and having some success (even if it’s limited), I feel bad for you.

At the end of the day you have to enjoy the good times because you know it won’t be long until Man City cheat their way to another title.

Heck I’m someone who doesn’t follow spurs at all and I’ve been tuning in to watch some of their matches when I can because of big Ange. They’re fun to watch. Isn’t that what sports is about. Having fun and dreaming?

When the bolded isn't actually happening should people just lie and make it up?

Watching a team because they have a loser manager is an odd choice but if it makes you happy then you should continue to do it. I don't think for those that see reality should start lying just because.

In what world is a first-place team that plays with tempo, leads the league in SOG, and has an xGF of 2.20 less exciting than an 8th place team, that plays some of the dullest football imaginable, and has an xGF of 1.62?

Can't tell if Moon is trolling or just the most miserable sports fan in the world
