Umm…
You do know Wolf gave up 6 goals Saturday in the AHL, yes?

We didn't even practice, they had a skate the day before that's it.
Real poor move on Huska's part. Last game of a road trip tired group lets just screw it up here with these new lines, and ones that did not work last year.

They have played 1 good game, played well for 40 minutes in 2 other games.
Thats it.
Starting Vladar is an issue ....how? He's the backup G. Its literally his job to play games once in a while.
I cannot believe we have people already blaming coaching and ironically because one of the players in that room has let us know that the guys are not doing what is asked.....unless you believe that Huska is asking each guy to play his own game and no coaching is actually involved.
Dumbfounded.

East is looking tough, no 92 point playoff teams this season IMO. Might need 100 to get in.
I think it's fair to call them a bubble team, they were last year. 17th overall, that's about as middle as you can get.
|
Well I know that's what you are hoping
I mean Montour has been super reliable and one would think Tkachuk gets going at some point. Barkov too actually. But sure, Ekblad and Bennett have injury issues. Though Bennett isn't that big of a deal, it's the defense that is mostly new faces and it shows.
If something goes wrong and they can't get Ekblad and Montour back then sure, then everything is up in the air. But they were at a 102 point pace since January last year even with Bob playing like garbage so one would think they can carry over some of that experience.

This all to me points again to the idea that the Flames should have had all these contract situations figured out prior to the draft, and certainly prior to the start of training camp.
They are now apparently distractions. Who would have thought?

And won.
We're basing it on Wolf playing like a stud the last 2 years while Vladar has played like a sieve.

I have a feeling that's directed at Lindholm and Hanifin. (Maybe Kadri and Huberdeau too if there are signs they regret signing here)
Even if they aren't the problem on the ice, I feel that the "we don't want to re-sign" narrative has to be annoying for the guys who want to be here and try to win.

Man the vibe around this team is so bad right now. They basically had no runway to work with given how last season went and its getting pushed to the limits already.
Sure hope they can string a couple Ws together and get things reset a bit. I agree with others, feels like things could snowball out of hand quickly.

Could be a blowout tonight. Let's hope they get it together.

I never saw anything about him taking a discount. He was hot to sign an extension because he had his best season ever and wanted to cash in

How do you know he didn't already do this in the dressing room 1 on 1? Maybe the reaction was poor and he sensed this team needed a wake up call. There's something not right with this group and I'm glad he had the courage to say it.
As far as not playing that bad, sure there has been flashes the but the record speaks for itself. 1-3-1 on the road trip just isn't good enough.

They are kind of in a lose-lose situation. Get crappy returns when no one has cap and want to see how it goes before making changes, overpaying the UFAs, or holding onto them.

Getting crappy returns is far better than massively overpaying for post apex players.

Big Z has made it abundantly clear that he wants to be here, he loves the city and the team and quite enjoyed his time on the Flames.
He doubled down on this in September during the Flames Golf tournament, said he'd love to sign long term.
It's been the Flames who have been quiet and non-committal, worrying about contracts for guys who have been the exact opposite and voicing their displeasure with wanting to sign in Calgary.
You couldn't really ask for more from Z at this point. He's 1 UFA I'd be upset to let walk at this point, everyone else can go.

The best choice is to wait till cap frees up and then trade them if the plan is to trade them. Getting a crappy return so they don't have a locker room distraction is dumb then they are going to be a crappy team anyways.
I still expect Lindholm and now Hanifin to sign though

well yeah but its not an outlandish hater take
Calgary and Florida have virtually identical regular season records since the trade...looking at the east this year its not crazy to call the Panthers a bubble team as we crap on the Flames.
Lets say the Sens and Wings are in...whos out? Like the Panthers might have to play at a 102 pace from today out to sneak in.
