Just read an article by Rob Couch of nhltraderumors, where he talks about the potential of the Blue Jackets trading D Adam Boqvist. It seems that the new coach doesn't like AB, and has only played him in 2 games so far. Also, when Werenski went down, David Jiricek was called up and aquitted himself well enough to cement his status on the team. Now, when Werenski comes back, they will have a top-6 with Werenski, Bean, Jiricek, Severson, Gudbranson, and Provorov. We've all heard for months now that D Andrew Peeke is on his way out, and he's only been in the lineup once this season.

For the team that lands Boqvist, they will be getting a D-man of somewhat modest stature (6'0"), who owns tremendous speed and skill, top-notch offensive skills, and a booming shot. His defense is still a work in progress, but this is a player with huge upside, who has already put up good numbers in the NHL.

Well, he might be a good replacement for Kylington/Valimaki. Huska has a history of being good for young defensemen, too.

I know the scenario is unlikely, but....

Is Kadri moveable? and would the Islanders, who were hard after him but couldn't move enough salary be a fit? It's pretty obviously not working out imo.

I don’t know but if there is any way at all to trade either him or Huberdeau, and not included extras going the other way, it needs to happen.

I can't imagine a single thing on the face of the earth that would make anyone believe the answer to this question could possibly be yes.

A 6x$7M 33-year-old player who plays like they've got a Cup and they've got money. Who needs anything else?

89 GP 24-33-57 points, -27 on a team with good PK and an aggregate -1 goal differential in that time. You'd even consider trading a bucket of pucks for that?

Decent players with low cap hits and low term were fairly immovable during the summer. Taylor Hall was free.

Why would any team take the risk of the $80M owed to Huberdeau with him playing so poorly without a huge amount of draft capital going the other way?

I felt like the “any way at all without adding extras” was clear enough that there is a cold chance in hell that a team would touch either of them.

To me that suggested there might be some chance they could be moved without extra's.

In fact, the extra's would be multiple first round picks.

Moving Huberdeau with one full year left at his current ability might cost you a first, ala Monahan. With close to 8 years left?

Only way is a Neal for Lucic you take our equally bad contract situation and I am not sure I can think of a similar contract out there that makes sense.

There is no way teams want Kadri at his age, salary, contract length and play. Even with sweeteners that we couldn't afford to give up and retention that our owners are unwilling to pay.

Huberdeau is the deal the team needs to find a way to move. Kadri likely needs to be ridden out for a couple of years then bought out.

I hold a sliver of hope that Montreal could be a trading partner for Huby. I can see St. Louis believing he can turn him around and they might not be able to resist the allure of a French Canadian star player they could get for a bag of pucks (their own questionable contracts)

I think you could move Kadri and Huberdeau. But, I think in both cases, you’d be looking at a change in the mix and not a youth movement or a better player out of it.

It’s not like there’s only one GM dumb enough to sign/trade for these guys.

…and if there is, just do a deal with Toronto.

Wonder how Huberdeau and Kadri are going to enjoy the pressure of their horrible contracts for the next 6 or 7 years. That must wear on them eventually.

Maybe they’d eventually be open to being moved

I don't see Huberdeau waiving for Montreal. Being bad on his contract is easy mode compared to Montreal.

Walsh said playing in Montreal means coming off the ice to be greeted by 15 cameras and more than 30 media members on a near-daily basis. There's also the constant attention that comes when a player is walking down the street, if they visit a local market for groceries or if they eat at a restaurant.

Yup. I'd say by the end of this season he will want out.

We would have to retain about 2.5 mil in a trade though

Unless he starts producing way more than he is now, Hubby at $8M per season is a boat anchor of a contract.

Now, retaining $2.5MM and taking on some long term back contracts may make it happen. But hard to imagine Calgary improving from such a trade.
