First of all, your guy has a bill of sale for a car. This is not rocket science. Yes the bank has to fill out a form for a deposit over $10K. He's has a bill of sale, its got a sale price on it and a VIN, literally no problems.
I've had the same problem with a Certified Bank Draft.
"We're going to have to hold this!"
No.
The issuing Bank has literally certified that this money is in the account and now tied to this draft, thats why its called a 'Certified Bank Draft' and not 'regular cheque.' Give me the money you clown.
|
Hate to burst your bubble but certified bank drafts can be faked or fraudulent. So, no, they haven’t literally certified the money is in the account.

I’ve always crushed my cans for recycling but someone said not to. I googled it and both crushed and uncrushed are acceptable, so crushing it will be.

I do a semi crush, but our bottle depot is using an automated sorter now, so all of the crushed ones end up falling off the conveyer contraption and it ends up taking longer for them to sort. So now I have to remind myself not to crush them.

I hate to burst your bubble.
If you are holding a genuine 'Certified Bank Draft' in your hands then a Genuine Certified Bank has...certified it.
If it doesnt clear...for whatever reason...It's the Bank's goddamned problem.

Yeah, they’re charging you $10 or whatever for the draft specifically so that it’s certified and you shouldn’t need a hold. Otherwise it’s just a regular cheque, and what’s the benefit?

The bank makes money off your cheque. That’s the only benefit.

Newsflash. Fraud and criminals exist. Banks don’t want to risk eating the cost on tens of thousands of dollars in fraud so Joe blow can access his money without waiting 3 days.
I can’t believe this actually requires explanation to adults.
“It’s the banks problem” lol. Are people really this naive?

He just always defends the banks. I feel for him, it’s a tough gig because they’re so brutal. Like here, you’re paying $10 for a certified cheque so that it’s not held and the person getting it knows they can trust it. Only, it might get held and no one can trust it, even the bank. So that $10 is basically just free money for the bank I guess.

I never thought I would sympathize with will smith, I've always hated his social media presence and found him to be an extremely opinionated vapid person who offers surface level life advice and pretends that he's a guru. But after seeing what he had to put up with in jada, I really feel bad for the man and regret feeling anything but positivity towards him. I would be crazy too if that bitch was my wife

My bank does my drafts for me for free. And fraud exists for everything including cash. Banks are evil but Cecil is completely right here. I remember one time when I sold my mom's car for her the guy was going to pay in a draft but I still went to the bank with him to deposit the draft and confirm it's money. Drafts are just fancier checks, they're a step above cheques but they're not a money order.

And I get all of that…so what is the point of the draft?

its more secure than a cheque.
in terms of security and reliability its like a medium pizza. a cheque is individual. a money order is basically cash/XL pizza
a personal cheque offers virtually no security or surety that there's funds. a draft does but, again, there can be fraud like an e-transfer, but its rare.

When you’re desperately searching for an analogy to secure money transfers and you’re eating a pizza at the same time.

The draft shows the person has the money in the account when the draft was created, where a check is any numerical value I want to write on it
The issue is you can still forge a bank draft, and it has become very common.

Then banks need to come up with some basic way of verifying their validity. If I get a draft from one bank in Calgary and wander over to another bank in Calgary to deposit it, they should fkn be able to call each other or something if they're concerned it's a forgery.

I wonder if they could create some type of internal transfer system from bank to bank. You give them the account number and bank info of where you want your money sent to and they do it for you automatically. Then there should be less risk of fraud. I suppose then, there’d still be a hold to verify that the original funds weren’t deposited into the original account illegally before being transferred.

That'd be a pretty swift idea, actually.
