I think it's more about him being paid 10.5 million. He should be much better, I don't think there's anything controversial about saying that. Most of the time I barely notice him on the ice, if I don't look at the numbers I can't tell who is who. Like I noticed Laine yesterday almost everytime he touched the puck.

I'm fine with Huberdeau and his play generally, he had a poor end of game shift yesterday and I think that's fine to point out. I still think his main problem isn't him, but the team assembled around him with too little skill/dynamism.

I was really impressed when he went flying at Gudbranson to get him away from Rasmus.

He is one of the league leaders in rush chances and expected goals. He is playing way better.

Contract is signed...money is irrelevant, it's not changing

Well neither are the expectations after signing that deal. He should be an impact player on most nights and I know he can be better.

Columbus got bag-skated after their last effort, so no surprise that they were ready to go for this one.

There has been a lot of talk about the team looking just like last year's team. I don't think that is really true, and I think there have been plenty of positive signs of change. However, I thought they reverted to some bad old habits last night.

The worst, is that, when behind, the forwards start flying the zone way too soon, leaving too much gap between them and the D, which either causes turnovers, or results in the forwards having to circle back or stop, to get a pass, which kills all forward momentum. Like last year, that was really evident last night.

The other, was an unwillingness to get into, and get the puck into, the center of the ice. WAY too much moving it around the perimeter, and back to the point. That, and watching guys delay and double-clutch before shooting, was maddening.

On to the next one.

This is how I wish we could all view the game. Back in the 80's when salaries weren't known, I didn't care what players made, just their performance. When we look at players performance thru the lens of what they are paid, we lose the joy of watching one of the top players in the world do what they do.

Especially goalies! 1/10 of a second might only be 2" of lateral movement for the goaltender, but thar cam easily be the difference between a goal and a save.
Okay, that's great 'cause I'm wrong when it comes to hockey analysis 95% of the time!

People act like this was goimg to be a cake based on last year's standings.

They lost 500 man games to injury and believe they are a better team and made moves in the offseason based on that as well.

People love talking about parity and when we lose its because we suck.

They have a lot of high draft picks with high upside a 40 goal scorer and Johnny. It wasn't going to be just easy

There are no easy games in the nhl. Any team can beat any team. They seemed to have less intensity this game. I still think we start to learn about the Flames chances this year after game 10. This team is definitely a project for the coaches.
