I'm anticipating a new album from The Bills and a new album from The Wailin' Jenny's this year. Not quite the rock and roll that people have been posting on here but amazing music imo.

Based on good reviews, today I picked up:
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Explosions in the Sky - All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Looking forward to new Weakerthans and New Pornographers. Rheostatics are disbanding and just had a farewell concert?

Hey Troutman, how's that EITS album? I'm thinking of picking it up.

It's not bad - I don't like it as much as their last two albums but it's still pretty decent overall.

Dis, time to turn in your Queensryche fan club membership. Tate, DeGarmo and Rockenfield would step in front of a bus if they heard one of their fans "liked" those no talent hacks, the White Stripes. Meg White is the worst excuse for a drummer on the face of the planet. Jack White can barely play guitar, is a terribe writer and singles like his junk is caught in his fly.
I can respect your dislike for the whole rap/metal genre, I'm not a big fan of it myself. But I do give props to Linkin Stinkin Park, they know how to make music that sells and gets your toe tapping. I'll always like their stuff for the fact that it's "fun" to listen to, and you don't have to be overly attentive when you rock out. There is a time for almost all music (save the likes of White Stripes) and bands like Linkin Park and Nickleback will always have space in my collection because they are fun, familiar, and you don't have to explain to people WTF they are listening to.
The "intellectual" picks in this thread are intersting. I have a feeling that in 10 years some of these people will look back and shake their heads at the stuff they "thought" was cool to listen to. I'm sure some of it will be held in the same regard as Linkin Park and Nickleback!
On the subject of the thread, and certain ridicule, I'm actually looking forward to the summer release from Ra.

Tori Amos has a new CD coming out this month....I'm stoked. I doubt anyone else is though.

I know this is an old post but I was at a concert awhile ago and I thought a quote really fit as a response to this...
"The critics really (expletive) on this record, but I just can't make the same (expletive) album over and over again."

I love how silverchair has evolved and expanded over the years. They went from a 3-piece grunge band to a band whose sound I couldn't explain if I tried.
I'm liking the new album, although it took some time to get into it. There's still a few tracks I don't enjoy (Mind Reader, for example) but for the most part it's really good. A lot of layering, a wide array of crazy instruments, and more of his (IMO) fantastic voice. The whole thing plays like a musical, as did their previous release, Diorama.
I just love how they keep changing and trying to find new sounds. It's very creative.
"Those Thieving Birds" (1 and 2) would have to be my favourite song on the disc, along with the first three tracks.
A good pickup for certain.

I liked it but I found that it wasn't as good as some of their other stuff. I'm looking forward to the new Feist's 'Reminder' and 'Icky Thump' by The White Stripes.

I picked up the Nightwatchman/Tom Morello CD a couple of weeks ago. It is excellent and I would recommend it. It is different than what I was expecting; although given that this is an acoustic CD I'm not too sure what that was to begin with!

I just picked up the new Elliott Smith CD. Not sure if anyone else here is a fan, but its demos and unreleased material. I have only been through it once or twice so far (its a double LP). Its awesome, and if you like Elliott, you'll love the discs!

Just finished listening to the new Linkin Park album, Minutes to Midnight. Kind of an interesting album to listen to in a few different ways.
There definitely seems to be almost a split personality feel to this album. Half of the songs are good, heavy rock songs, the other half are lame ass radio ballads.
Songs that I really liked:
2. Given Up
4. Bleed it Out (LP performed this on SNL last weekend, good tune albeit slightly repetitive)
6. What I've done
8. No More Sorrow (Metallica fans, listen to this song and note at the 47 second mark if that riff sounds familiar! Due to the Rick Rubin influence?)
So yeah, not the greatest album, but still some decent tunes. Here is hoping that Chester does a solo album, cause that would be cool!

I was really disappointed with it.
I didn't find that any of the tracks were worth uploading to my iPod, and have a 100GB iPod, so that's saying something.

Just grabbed the Elvis Perkins album from Play, I was just doing my round abouts and took a listen and was really impressed I bought it after listening for about 30 seconds, its kind of folkie acoustic type kind of sober as well…as most of the songs where written after his mother died during 9-11

You are slamming the White Stripes yet you say that you respect Linkin Park because they know how to make music that sells.............that's strange.
