I imagine they are paid well but it can't be a great job to jump out of bed and get excited about everyday to poke and scrap around people's mouths (some of them nasty) and being exposed to patient saliva and other fluids. They really do all the grunt work for the dentists and I suppose conversation may at least add something to the crappiness of the job.

Your AMA discount and Air Miles # are already in the app. This is really handy in the winter when it's freezing cold.
Paying through the app+ the AMA discount+ Top Tier gas is enough for me to use Shell almost exclusively.

Stoney trail vehicles without any lights on... 15mins driving and saw half dozen "ninja" vehicles, and got stuck behind one vehicle merging into higher speed traffic by SLOWING DOWN and then brake checking me when I got too close (because apparently you're not supposed to speed up to merge with faster traffic??? ). Baaaaah I'm surrounded by strugglers.

My small car and my big SUV are both roughly 85 litre fuel tanks.

Frankly, I them up well before I would need to put a full 75 litres in anyway. You shouldn't let your tank get down to the warning lamp illuminating anyway.

I have a wife, so that's not an option... I've never heard this - what's the reasoning? Wear on the fuel pump?

Fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel in the tank. Running low all the time means the pump doesn't have as good of cooling, and can burn them out.

To add to that, the pump's placement within the fuel tank means that a low fuel level can result in the pump taking in air when the fuel level is low, which will also generate heat within the pump.

Avoiding the sediment in the bottom of the tank was the usual justification when fuel tanks were made of metal, but it's far less of a concern these days since plastic fuel tanks don't corrode. Even then, it still helps keep the fuel filter free of debris picked up by the pump should there be any present.

Lastly, it's just a more practical way of keeping the vehicle running. It's why I fill the washer fluid reservoir when I first see the 'low' indicator first come on instead of putting it off until later. If I keep pushing it, eventually I'll run out of fluid when I actually need it or when it's inconvenient to re-fill.

I always push the washer fluid level low(it's a game!), in the faint hope I can actually get a full jug in. If I jump on it at the first illumination of the light, It's not gonna happen.

TorqueDog or Fuzz, maybe you can help me with something that's got me scratching my head. According to every online source I can find, my car's fuel tank can hold 75 litres. Yet recently I was filling up when I was extremely low on fuel, and the pump clicked at around 55 litres. What gives?

Does your fuel gauge read full after? If not, it could be something blocking the breather tube prematurely tripping the pump shutoff. Might want to Google your vehicle with the problem to see if it is something common to it.

If it reads full, well, perhaps you got the tiny tank option...?

it's like a bloody contest to see how can leave it with the least amount of gas, and worst of all my wife seems to have joined the game

I have a hard time believing that the amount of gas in the tank has any real impact on the long term life of any component in my car.

Don't people just fill up and run it until the warning light comes on and then go get gas? That's my system 95% of the time unless I'm planning some sort of extended trip.

Oh look at money bags over here. My gas budget is like my other budgets, the moneys gone as it comes in. I can’t be luxury tank filling. Plus I need the bonus kilometer I get running on half tank or less in weight savings…

Depends on the vehicle, but the reserve capacity of a fuel tank is between 10-15% of the overall tank size. Your tank might have a reserve level of around 11.25 litres, which would be within a margin of error where your numbers were in this case.

Yep, goes all the way to full. I'll keep googling to see if I can find out what it is.
