Honzek will be back in dub, no need to rush him. Let him put on some weight and dominate.

Draft rankings are going to be really interesting this year. Sounds like some people on here believe our picks in round #1-3 are toss ups.

Cosentino seems like his biggest fan but the reality is that he wasn't even talking about him until the calendar hit 2023 as he wasn't on his December list. He's a later riser for better or worse.

How many prospects from lower euro leagues make a 1st round list, Hossa moved to Portland to get noticed, Kopitar to Sweden, Vanek to the USHL, the list goes on. Marian Gaborik got noticed in his final season in Slovakia but he had help as the coach was a relative and gave him lots of ice time, most players don't get that kind of help over there.

As soon as the adjective 'big' was placed on Honzek, some posters (incorrectly) assumed that meant he isn't very good.
They were all good picks. You could argue that Morin could have gone in the first round, but it's hard to argue that he should be ahead of Honzek. And for Suniev, maybe he's a late 1st rounder last year, and he could easily have gone in the 2nd this year, but it would be a stretch to put him ahead of either of the other two at this point.
The interesting thing for me, when we rank them, will be where they slot vs the guys already in the system. I think all 3 are top 8, along with last year's top 5, but we'll see.

Flames Nation article about the ELC sliding rules and how Honzek and Lipinski will probably be signed before the end of December

This is what i was wondering. He got hurt while with the flames. If he was eligible for the AHL and was injured while with Calgary, then wouldn't he be stuck counting against our cap?
My point is....how did the flames escape not having to book Honzek as injured and against our cap similar to how it would be for an AHL player?

He was sent to the W, he’s not on the NHL roster.

Hes not eligible for the AHL. It was either NHL or WHL. He was sent down, so he's not on the NHL roster so doesnt count towards the cap and doesnt have to be IR'd or LTIR'd.

I know that part.
So you can send an injured player to the CHL but not the AHL? Where does it say that in the CBA?

Yeah and then Kylington's situation on top of that! Was looking forward to the youth movement this season. Hopefully Honzek is back soon and playing C as they had planned for him.

Is Rooney still in the Flames roster? The Wranglers website listed him as being on their team but injured.

In Preseason they aren't part of the regular season roster. If the Injury happens during regular season im not sure if that changes and they can't be sent down. Sounds like a good question to send to 32 thoughts or something?

Quote:
Season Opening Injured Reserve
If a player is on a 2-way contract & was on an NHL roster for less than 50 games played last year & is injured prior to opening roster, their Cap Hit while injured is pro-rated based on # of days on roster last year multiplied by the current year cap hit.
Note: If a player was injured in a game outside of the NHL in the last season and meets the criteria above, he carries no cap hit. For example, if a player is injured in the AHL playoffs, is on a 2-way deal and was on the NHL roster for less than 50 games, and is still injured when the next season begins, he does not carry a cap hit.
|
This is why Pelletier carries a $406,000 cap hit right now on SOIR.
I'm not sure exactly why Honzek was able to be "sent back" to junior (even though he likely never left Calgary) rather than being put on SOIR, but it ultimately doesn't matter because he wouldn't have any cap hit either way and he is still being treated in Calgary.

Honzek wasn’t going to make the big club. But anyone getting hurt does suck.
