It totally feels like Brad had the Kadri signing targetted before Johnny and Matthew left, but then went ahead with it anyway.

Nah, I think it was a pure throw of the dice to salvage the offseason and hope they do some damage. No way they fit Kadri in if Gaudreau and Tkachuk stayed.

Yup.

He knew he wasnt going to have to pay for it.

Kadri, in his prime, was a good player, but he got his Cup, his career is finished. Now he's just getting paid.

I'll never forget him quitting on the team last year. Regardless of what's going on behind the scenes that was such a sad pathetic thing to do. Especially one of the oldest players on the team coming off a cup win. He should've been the voice of reason in the locker room and provide leadership. Instead he whined to the media and quit on his teammates. One can only hope that teams are given an amnesty buyout when the cap goes up and the NHL realizes teams need a little bit of a reset after 5 brutal years of salary cap hell.

The Flames let their ego get in the way. Myself and many others at the time Gaudreau left and Tkachuk asked out acknowledged that it would be a good time for a rebuild. We had (and still do have) some really nice complimentary pieces that contending teams would love. We had no superstars. The 2023 draft was incredibly deep, we could have snagged a really nice high end partner to develop alongside Coronato. I feel no connection to this team right now. I watched Monahan, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk develop and blossom into superstars. I haven't done that with this team.

The Flames felt they had to sign Huberdeau to save face. They felt they had to sign Kadri to keep the dream alive. I understand how they might have felt that way, but the right thing to do then was to start a rebuild and that decision has only been justified further since last year.

Same old story with this franchise. I just don't get it.

Kadri needs to be much better and I hope that he can be. He just seems to not be giving his full effort every night which is unacceptable in the NHL especially for someone who is making 7 million a season. Maybe the fans or the media will be able to embarrass him into giving a F....

I know its not popular opinion around here but I actually don't hate the Huberdeau contract that much.

I don't love it and would have rather traded him for a boatload before signing him but here we are. He has displayed elite play in the past so I kind of understood why.

The Raymond, Brouwer, Neal and Kardri signings on the other hand, I absolutely hated the minute they happened. We traded premium assets for the room to sign Kadri too so it makes it even worse.

I also do agree the Coleman signing was more supposed to be for a team that needed to solidify their top 9 to push them over the edge. Not a Flames team that still had significant holes in their top 6.

So much mismanagement and now we are left with a team I somewhat despise.

The irony is the year we played Dallas I loved pretty much the whole team...

I still have hopes for some of these guys like Coronato, Ruzicka, Duehr and still think Sharangovich can become something. Lindholm and Backlund will always have my heart..

Really when I sum it all up I think not signing Kadri would have made my outlook alot more hopeful cause we wouldn't be saddled with that contract and have gave up a 1st.

I got crucified for saying Kadri doesn't help.this team, is a cancer , is a waste of the air in the locker room etc etc etc.

I'm not here to say I said so either but I've never seen such a me me me player in my life.

When the Avs gave him his ring last year there was a sense of relief on Bednars face in just handing him his ring and " I'm out" . His team mates too.

I still remember the pompous arrogance and false swagger Neal had when here enough to recognize that stench from across the Atlantic . I seriously hope we cut ties , trade his low hockey IQ dumb dumb act sooner than later.

Maybe Jarome takes him out for Dinner and has a discussion with him on how to be a leader . Jarome got cheated out of a cup but that son of a gun knows what it takes to say hey fellas let's go follow me .

I bet Fleury would have made a bigger impact on this team had he successfully made a.comback and the Flames let him play. As crazy as Theo is I'd still.rather pay full price to see that gong show....yep....I said it again .....than the 2023 2024 gong show.Kadri

Kadri was always a player with a chip on his shoulder who felt he needed to prove something.

He proved it.

We're just the idiots who gave him money and term after he had nothing left to prove.

And it cost us Monahan and a 1st to do it.

Thanks Brad...ya clown muppet!

The Theo part aside, as it's just silly, Kadri was destined to falter from the start. The Flames signed him when he topped out on everything in his career - positive attitude, goal scoring, winning the cup, playing with great players, etc. Signing with the Flames for that price he was expected to be a perennial top two line player. Complete junk signing from the start with that term. It really exposes desperate GMs and Owners. Yet people are more than willing to offer more term and salary to Lindholm. Lindholm may be better than Kadri but he's still an aging human. Mistakes will continue to be made because lessons are never learned.

Huberdeau's contract structure is awful, it's the Lucic contract all over again. At least Kadri can be bought out in a few years.

Lol, ya. Be lucky to get one of Nylander's hockey sticks for Kadri at this point.

I wonder if, after seeing the first year of Kadri (and Huberdeau)’s performance, and realizing the potential for cap disaster, formed a big part of Brad’s decision to leave Calgary.

Ah it’s all good. Jokinen all over again: teams spent years pining for a player then when they actually got him he was a shell. Can’t win em all, I’m sure the next big FA contract will be a good one
