Not if its the goalie's stick. Van was actually trying to get it back to DeSmith a couple of times - one of the categories of interference in the rulebook is "(iii) For interference when a player moves a stick that is not broken and it interferes with an opposing player (except where a penalty shot (53.7) or awarded goal (53.8) applies) or when the player who lost said stick is prevented from retrieving it as a result; "
