The Islanders and Ducks are the last teams to start the season.

Here's hoping Brock Boesser continues OwNING the Oilers this evening.

And lastly ....I have questions about the Sweatpantry?

Do they sell sweat T Strings ....ya know the smelly kind after a night of cheering on the oilers and getting the win and slapping those suckers on your head...Edmonton style?

And do the Sweat T strings come with a tramp stamp tattoo kit with your fave players mug on it.?

And they must have a shoe section at the stores? Do they deliver by Amazon? Or just have tall Amazon's with light mustaches deliver them up in Edmonton.

Oh Edmonton . Just keep doing you.

Ottawa looking good, but Philly isn’t really a threat

Sure wish we had a Tkachuk as our captain. Brady’s killing it today.

I want to see Skinner get skinned and then pulled after letting in 3 goals in 6 shots.

The Senators looked good.

Having Chabot and Chychrun with Sanderson on the back end is envious.

If they get goaltending and structure they’re interesting.

Who’s going to take the next leap this year between Ottawa/Buffalo/Detroit?

Tough call between OTT and BUF, but DET is the least likely, IMO.

Out of those 3, Ottawa is most likely. Only Stutzle and Sanderson are under 24. The rest of their core is at an age of being likely to break out. They added a couple of nice veterans in Giroux and Tarasenko to provide a little leadership and skill. Still unsure just how good their goaltending is, but it should be solid at the very least.

Detroit is actually surprisingly old for a building club. On defense, only Seider is under 27, and many are over 30 (and not very good). I don't like their goaltending at all. Forwards have some nice young players and good veterans mixed in, but I'm not sure they have enough firepower to outscore their defense.

Buffalo seems like the smart choice to break out. They have some elite talent at forward and defense, but everything rests on the inexperienced shoulders of Devon Levi. If he falters at all, they don't have a lot of options in net to get them to the playoffs.

I think Ottawa makes the playoffs as the last seed this year, and Buffalo is right behind them. Detroit might actually bottom out entirely this year.

Who falls out of the playoffs from last year for Buffalo to make it? I assume Boston given their losses at centre, but I don't watch enough of the east.

For me, NJD, NYR, CAR, TBL, BOS, TOR are locks. The 2 wild cards are between PIT, OTT, NYI, FLA, WSH.

No chance BUF gets a sniff.

I think the better question is which playoff team is more likely to be out: Boston, Tampa Bay, or Florida?

I hate to say it, but I really worry about that Florida defense missing both Montour and Ekblad out for roughly the first half of the season. Coming off a long run in the playoffs, there is always a bit of a hangover for these teams. A lot of rookies and unestablished guys made the team because they didn't have options up against the cap.

Tampa without Vasilevsky is a different team. They rely on him a lot to carry the load, and they don't really have a solid option at the moment. They still have some elite players, but the depth that made them so good has really been worn away over the years. Also a team with cap issues.

Boston lost it's top 2 centers, and the loss of Bergeron is massive as he did so much all over the ice. I think they have a very competitive team, but I also don't think Ullmark is really one of the elite goaltenders in the game, and is likely going to regress somewhat this year. Should still get points in the high 90's as a team, but it'll be close.

Seems about right... except Washington they are brutal

It should be more competitive too... nobody is falling in ass backwards with 92 points

Washington won't get anywhere close to the playoffs. Despite the pedigree of their star players, they are old as dirt and they don't have anyone coming up in the organization to replace them. It's gonna be a long year for them.

I think that TBL and BOS are going to be in the wild card mix, but aren't locks to make the playoffs at all. Buffalo could easily be right there at the end. It depends on if Levi is the real deal or not.

Does Tampa rely on Vasilevsky that much? I'm asking because I'm not certain and sort of leaning to they don't. They'll get their goals and unless they're allowing 4-5 every game I think will win more often than they lose.

I think Boston has incredible leaders on the team and will always play the right way. Losing Bergeron is obviously huge but Marchand will step up. I don't think there's any chance they miss.

This leaves FLA and I agree with you - their D is UGLY.

I mean, if they get Ekblad and Montour back before December, it's not so bad, but losing your top pair on a team that also lost Gudas to free agency, they lost 3 of their top 4 defensemen from last year and replaced them with OEL and some no name guys.

To be fair, OEL looks ok, but he can't play anywhere near the top pair at this point in his career.

Montour-Ekblad
Forslng-Kulikov
OEL-Mahura

That's so much better than what they're rolling right now.
