They said the same about Gretz too. That's bull####.
They're suckers, they'll watch no matter whats on the ice and bleat about it. I actually think they like it more when they suck because they enjoy the victim complex of life.

McDavid... I always disagree with Dissentowner but in this case I have actually heard the same from people who know his wife in Edmonton. They're gone after this contract. I personally don't think this is a secret. That said, Edmonton will throw anything possible at him to stay and money talks.

Him and his wife have to hate not being able to go anywhere in Edmonton without being hounded.

My guess is they would want New York, LA, Chicago, etc or one of the big US markets where he will be able to walk down the street and nobody will even know who he is.

Which is just so Edmonton.

What's bigger (more important) - the player or the game?

I hope you are right. If McDrai are as close as we are lead to believe I think they will be in close communication on their future plans. That is the hope Edmonton needs to hold onto. There likely won’t be a bear contending team with $30M of cap space and a winning roster to sign those guys in a couple years so that does give Edmonton a slight advantage. We need to hope they don’t win anything and do not see a clear path to winning so they move on.

Allegedly they are obsessed with winning so we have to hope that Ekholm’s hip and their goaltending remain an issue

Sharangovich/Greer

Puljujarvi's two way game is solid. Not good at finishing though, but who knows - maybe it could click.

Good article on him.

If the Flames can sign him, they absolutely should. He may not be a Nichushkin level find, but I think he is a "fixer" much in the same way prime Frolik was. It would be found money.
Poolparty is terrible.

Maybe they've gotten tired of only being able to do layups in their indoor basketball court.

McDavid is 27 years old. By that time Gretzky had won 4 Cups and was on his way to LA. I can't see how or why McDavid would want to resign with the Oilers. Edmonton will always be no good.

I don't think there was anything to be fixed with Frolik. He was 0.5 PPG in Winnipeg who could play PK and excelled at fitness, and was the exactly the same in Calgary.

Its definitely not practice. Allen Iverson told me that.

I feel putting any stock into what people are thinking / feeling in the present, on a decision that isn't relevant for 3 more years (maybe 2 I guess) is futile. Don't get me wrong, as a Flames fan, hearing 97 and fam are leaning towards not staying when the contract is up, is certainly better than hearing how much they love it, and for sure increases the odds that they'll decide to leave in 3 years, but as mentioned, so much can change between now and then.

Family situations, and what happens on the ice for them over the next 3 years are likely far bigger factors into influencing their final decision vs. anything they feel or think they know now.

Out of curiosity: If we offered SJ one of Sharangovich or Dube for Duclair who says no?

I'm not giving up on Sharangovich, in fact I thought he was pretty good last game. I'm just thinking in terms of chemistry. The same goes for Dube. Dube had a bit of a lackluster game, but again I know there's more there.

Oh didn't mean it that way. Meant it moreso in that Frolik was a "fixer" of lines. He could play anywhere in the lineup because he was defensively responsible and could finish at a meh level.

constant change isn't the best path to chemistry either

Oh, sorry! Totally misunderstood what you meant (although I personally don't get that sense from Poolparty).

I’d give Poolparty a contract just for the ####s and giggles of him turning his game around

A lot of big name players are set to become UFAs the same year as Draisaitl. Obviously a lot can change by then, but there are a few teams that stand out who may be big players in the free agent market in July 2025.

Leafs could trade Matthew's for a huge return and sign McDavid 🤔
