You are wrong. Jews are the largest target of hate crimes in Canada. I have seen it, felt it and lived it. As have my children. It is a serious problem. The latest protests were disgusting and help prove the point.

My son has been attacked for being Jewish in elementary school and junior high repeatedly by Muslim students. If he isn't being attacked, he isn't welcome in their homes. His school does nothing about it.

Jewish students in universities across north America are commonly bombarded by hatred.

Being a visible Jew is putting a target on you. If you didn't know, time to read and start understanding.

The best measure of this is that Jewish centers, synagogues and Jewish public gatherings require security/police that cost money (full time support), and wouldn't be done if not required. Just recently we didn't just have police, we had the military.

So much of this is irrelevant to the question that was asked.

So no I am not wrong there would be no reason to not feel safe.

"oh no, sorry for you son, that is terrible"

"oh for sure, I understand it exists, but wouldn't I be safe?"

"I didn't realize they required security, that is so sad"

Thank you! My kids were home today. My son was defending himself for much of the week from accusations of everything Hamas did, but in fact, Israel did it all. Kids don't know better, but some of the things my son tells me for sure came from parents.

One boy who just won't stop lives nearby. He invites everyone over, and my son would wait on the street, he isn't allowed in their house.

Another boy is nice to my son, but my son can't visit his house either, although their son comes over in secret. We of course treat him well. We deal with racism all the time. Feels like it doesn't count or something when it is against jews or something?

Credit where credit is due to Global for their balanced take on tonight's edition of the National and actually providing a perspective from local citizens in Gaza and the impacts of the ongoing attacks at civilian Palestinians. They also showed the UN calling Israel's 24-hr evacuation request out as what it is - an "impossible" and insincere request.

By the way, for people who think Gaza is about Hamas here is what some Israeli government officials were saying earlier this year,

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.time...ngagement/amp/

"A far-right minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government said that a law repealing legislation that ordered the evacuation of four West Bank settlements was a step on the way to re-occupying and resettling the Gaza Strip, a move that she acknowledged would cause “many casualties.”

Got it. And what would be the "adequate" response for civilians in Israel who elected multiple governments who said they would expand settlements? Why are some civilians considered more valuable than others? The rules of war and human rights rules should apply to all, not just to who you think is right or feel a connection to.
I don't even know what we're arguing about really.

Firstly, Hamas didn't lie to anybody. They made it very clear they wanted to kill all the Israelis. In the past when they've killed Israeli civilians, they threw parties.

Secondly, this isn't about retribution on innocents. Israel is attacking Hamas. Innocents are likely going to die when attacking Hamas. Hamas has purposely put their own civilians in harm's way.

You can debate maybe Israel should be taking more extreme measures to protect Palestinian civilians. I'd probably agree with you on some of that.

I say this without intent to call you a liar but, if you're going to say it was there you can't then turn around and not say where. It's an unprovable argument and doesn't help or contribute to this.

Is the question was that police being there? A congregation of Jews required police to help be safe. is that not enough? That is standard nowadays. Didn't realize that with all the claims in this thread, that specific detail required citations.

The question of military being there is another thing. There were several people in attendance that maybe increased the security detail. There were no tanks or anything like that, but attendees were informed military and police were there to keep people safe. I am not going to say where since again, I don't know if that is information I can just release like that. I can certainly say nothing more.

Today there was a serious increase in police presence around locations with lots of Jews.

Yes, blocking food and water into Gaza and telling hospitals that they have two hours to evacuate is definitely not retribution on civilians

This is just terrible but not surprising given their history.
