Lots of positives to take away from the win. #1 has to be Markstroms strong game. #2 for long term confidence I think it was important Huberdeau-Lindholm-Mangiapane start strong with points. #3 the pairing of Weegar - Zadorov is dynamic and could supplant Andersson - Hanafin as the top pairing, but am probably reading too much into the first game of the season. Bonus was Ruzicka coming up big early in the game on the huge first 2 goals.

What a night and day difference from last season..

Bad analytics and terribly outshot but we had some solid goaltending and our top guys made big plays when they needed to.

A but messy but lots to like!

Hopefully they can shore up their 5v5 defensive game quickly.

Are... are we getting good Markstrom this year? Great job by him. Start better and don't let them get so many shots next time.

I liked lots of players' game today. Younger guys were good. And the top players showed up when the team needed.
Coronato has a great vision and IQ. When he adjust his timing and speed he will be our main scorer for sure.
Fourth line was good and I think they have great potential.

Markstrom was good! Team still a little bit wobbly but they got the W. I thought Coronato was going to have his first goal for sure on that PP opportunity

Last year taught me it doesn't really matter

you either win or you lose...shoulda, woulda, coulda is worth zero points at the end of the year. That is a BIG 4 point game against a team that will likely be in the race near the end.

and the Oilers lost 8-1

Huska shall henceforth be known as Opposite George. Just do everything the complete opposite of Sutter, profit

I get the sense Huska will reward players doing the rights things as opposed to Sutter playing head games and then put player in max pressure situations. The puck movement in the offensive zone is already a massive improvement over last year where it was all low percentage shots from the perimeter.

Wow what a strange game that was, definitely different from what we typically saw last season. The Jets looked absolutely dominant for a lot of the game, out shot and out chanced the Flames badly, but Markstrom was outstanding and willed the team to victory. So that’s a big positive that Jacob can build on.

Thought Mangiapane was the best skater in red tonight. Looks like he’s carrying over from that great second half of last season where he was one of the best Flame skaters.

The rest of the team were pretty underwhelming to varying degrees, but no point in over analyzing from an individual standpoint as it’s only game 1.

Looks like there’s an Interesting new strategy with the defensive schematics though. Definitely more passive in the Dzone akin to Ward/Gulutzan rather than Darryl. We’ll probably see a lot more shots against, but with more emphasis on protecting the house I guess.

Considering that Huska was saying the team turned over the puck too many times in the defensive zone, I wouldn't even be sure of more shots against. I think that will settle down once they can just play the system instead of thinking about each move.

That was a good game.

The Jets arent Chumps, they're likely looking to be a playoff team this year and just committed hard to their core.

And its not like the Flames walloped them or anything, that game was tight right to the end.

That was actually a pretty decent test of both sides. I'll take it.

Last year we loose that game, the ability and will to strike back wasn't there.

That said they can play better.
