CalgaryJobShop.ca Commercial
I dont know how many of you are like me and listen to the Fan all day but if i have to hear the Calgaryjobshop.ca commercial one more time im going to find the nearest jackhammer and pound my eardrums until theyre no more!!!
The annoying coworker, the mindnumbing back and forth conversation, the fact he has to repeat the fact that she said "You can post your job requirements with unlimited words for one low price" etc
Anyone else find this commercial on your list for marketing and advertising people you'd like to have a "talk" with?

I really don’t mind that commercial at all, one I do hate is the Value auto parts one, where the guy starts talking about kids working at “other” auto part stores
I reallyhate it because the guys voice is awful but its just flat out ignorant I know a lot of Teenagers that know a hell of a lot more about cars and there parts than me or most adults I know
Also the Alarm force one, I just have beef with security systems in general

I love the jobshop ads. They are creative, well written and have excellent voice. And what's more - they are 60 seconds. I think they are among the best ads out there.
My favourite is the one at the wedding when the guy interrupts things to try to recruit for his positions.
"Ah chain link experience?"

This is a Rogers sponsored company....the more hits the website gets the more money Rogers gets. That's why they play the frickin' thing at every opportunity.

Who in their right mind could say its well written when you have to listen to some yahoo try to imitate having four donutballs in his mouth....
Absolutely terrible.
Or this classic:
"Did it ever occur to you to take your dear mother out for a change?"
Ya absolutely innovative!!!!

I second that. The next time I hear that guy say "...with hormones on OVERDRIVE!!" I'm going to drive my car into on-coming traffic.

How many radio ads have the storylines that these spots do, or even the characters for that matter? 95% of radio ads are basically announcer reads with some cheezy music in the b/g. I admire the fact that these guys are trying to do something different.

*^^ True enough. I always wonder if Peter Maher really believes that the best example of "team focus" comes from the guys that are "high on grass" at green drop.
*Edit: Directed at Jiri's comments.

The recent ad that is giving me problems is one of those prescription drug ones. A youngish somewhat hot gal is telling her two somewhat hot friends about it at a club or something. The two friends sit there and nod and give each other raised eyebrow looks while gal #1 recites the obligatory litany of drug cautions like she's channeling the local pharmacist. The drug caution requirement makes any pharma-ad tricky but this one is easily the worst and most impropable I've seen in a good while.

Wow! Someone (Jiri) actually liked the jobshop commercials.
I remember when they first started to play on the Fan: pronouncing the word "meeting" as "mitting", doing the singsong "amaaaayzing results" . I hated everything about them then and I still hate them.
IIRC, Jiri works in broadcasting so he might know something we don't about their effectiveness. That still doesn't make them any less irritable to me, though.
Speaking of the Fan960 ads, many are quite annoying and seem to be very low budget. Intellibed, Jersey City (aarrgh!), the talking mattress, Jonathan Carroll -- the list goes on. I don't mind It's Just Lunch, Flames Central or the Blue Jays ads as much.

The alarm force adds just annoy me to no end, seriously do they do anything other than just try to downplay and insult the competition?!?!?!
now I dont own my own home so could hardly care less about home security systems, but have had a friend tell me about alarm force coming to his house to try to sell him a system, and it was the same thing, all they did was try to say the competition isnt good enough because they dont have two way voice...blah blah blah
having worked in commision sales, if the only selling point you have is to try to insult and degrade the competition, you're probably not going to do very well

Actually it probably comes more from my previous career in the advertising business.
But by most measures they are fantastic ads, I don't know what type of response they get, but they meet all the criteria.
- Memorable
- Everyone remembers the name
- Everyone remembers what the company does
Most impressive...I bet if you ask most people they can tell you specific benefits of calgaryjobshop.ca - unlimited words, get your ad on in less than 5 minutes, etc. Most ads struggle to get one key message through and this ad successed at getting a bunch.
Now one could argue that is from the reptition, but a lot of ads have the similar reptition and the messages are still lost.
Also from a production cost perpsective, the company that does this repurposes ads across the entire country - there is a torontojobshop.ca, vancouverjobshop.ca and I'm sure others. They use the identical ads and just drop in the city specific URL. This allows them to produce ads for each market that appear local, but are really part of a larger national compaign.
OK I've written way too much about these stupid ads now. But I really am fond of them, not so much even for the ads themselves but just because of the strategy behind them.

I hate annoying advertising as much as the next guy, but I'm with jiri on this. I sometimes marvel at the effectiveness of certain ads.
Lately, I've been halfway between stabbing myself in the ear and applauding because of the ads on Eagle 100.9 advertising the benefits of advertising.
Some of them are brutal, but some of them do exactly what they are supposed to do.
ex. the ad where they say that "you wouldn't turn off your plane's engine when you're flying high"...blah blah blah.. They make the point that you need to keep advertising to stay on top.
The only reason I remember this is because they talk about turning off the plane's engine. Talk about putting a picture in a guy's head.
The world of advertising is a tricky business. I've often wondered if marketers should be minoring in psych.

That woman's voice is so annoying from the calgaryjobshop.ca ads
The worst are the QR77 commercials where the guys says "I'm Charles Adler, and YOU NEED long term disability insurance NOW!"
then he goes on and on about the benefits, and how if you don't use it, you get your money back. how the f are they paying for the radio commercials then buddy?
The other crazy one is "hi, I'm Danny Hooper for Big Iron Drilling"
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!
