Without either of the Huby/Kadri contracts they could easily pay and keep lindholm but that's just not the case for the Flames. Too much cap locked up as is so if anything else is signed for 7-8 years, it's got to be at a hometown discount.
Lindholm asking for nor only UFA market value but nearly a million AAV above it just simply isn't in the cards for this team. Elias doesn't have to care about this but he should also have the wherewithal to understand and acknowledge this.
He's probably looking to make up for how he was underpaid for the last 4-5 seasons and probably doesn't give AF though.

How's he going to make up for that though if he plays disinterested hockey and the team doesn't do well? He'll also lose any fan support who'll end up not really caring what they get for him, just ship the bad blood out. It just doesn't add up.

Maybe he simply has one number to stay on the Flames and different numbers for other teams. Boston has a gaping hole at centre and might be better positioned for success in his mind.
Tre really left a turd with that Kadri contract

Huberdeau and Kadri don't really jive that well either. Since they're both already signed, and theoretically exist on two different top 6 lines, I don't know where we would slot lindy even if we signed him. Unless we want Kadri as our defacto 3 c or are willing to try lindy as a RW on his line.

Garlic and peanut butter totally go together, just needs some heat and some fish sauce!

Sure, but then there's Huberdeau to complain about.
Last season he went from 115 points to 55. Since trends always continue, this year he'll score –5 points. Opponents will be awarded a goal just because Huberdeau steps on the ice, or something.

How about Sillinger AND a first? It would be nice to bring in another C like Sillinger or Pinto, plus Dube can play C- although with varying degrees of success.
A scenario that was discussed in here earlier this summer centered around Kent Johnson. I don't believe CBJ would give him up, but Lindy would look great on that team, and could maybe be good for Johnny. If we're trading Lindholm, CBJ has a ton of good pieces.

I don't like it. I refuse to do business with a vegetable farmer who can't even spell CABBAGE.

The time to rebuild/retool was 2 years ago, it's not happening now, they went another route. If they don't re-sign Lindholm they'll just spend the cap on the best free agent they can get.

The only thing that gives me hope is that with Schiefele gone there are basically no centres to sign.

I'm not the biggest Krebs fan, but that would be beautiful. Seems like a good path to take- balance the aging vets with good, young talent.

I am starting to believe this guy doesn't want to be here. Unfortunately it is too early to get a good return for him I think, the Flames are going to have to wait this one out for awhile. Very disappointing to me.

Well to be fair, Dissentowner's info has been different then the rest all along. The latest from everyone else (insiders and media) has the Flames final offers in the $8.3-$8.6mil AAV range from the Flames as of now with things stalling out, which seems standard from other insiders.
Dissentowner also had a Flames offer of $9milAAV x 8 years yesterday with a signing close, which he already went back on a day later and joined the rest of the group, but his understanding is not that the info was wrong but that Lindholm didn't take it. Nothing against dissentowner or his sources, but whoever's feeding him I don't think has much of an insider presence, to be honest. Lindholm would likely sign a $72mil deal right away, I highly, highly doubt that is in play from the Flames right now. Just seems bunk, especially considering that it's close to getting done.

This song and dance with Lindholm is becoming extremely tiresome. I was in the sign him camp before but now I'm very much in favour of a trade. Get it done before it becomes a distraction.

Agreed. Don’t let this drag on. The Flames still have Hanifin, Zadorov, and Tanev to deal with. That’s a lot.
If they can do it now, Lindholm to Columbus makes a ton of sense. Lindholm for Sillinger and a 1st will do. Kekalinen and the Jackets need a story to wash the Babcock stink off them. Flames can’t be bullied into overpaying a player at Lindholm’s age. If Lindholm’s not going to sign a deal in the Larkin, Horvat, Schiefele range now it seems unlikely he’s going to change his mind.
I was a little optimistic after the Flames announced their leadership group the other day on socials with Lindholm included. I thought that may have suggested things were moving in a positive direction, seems like that’s not the case. I’ll be interested to see what kind of reaction he gets tonight during player introductions. I doubt he gets booed but it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s a pretty quiet welcome for him.

If this is true then I think he only wants to be in Calgary for a huge amount of money and nothing else. His agent isn’t an idiot. They know he won’t get close to that as a ufa and I think they are fine with that . If it’s me I’m trading him sooner than later. Can’t take a chance that he is hurt near deadline. flames are trying to build up an environment of players that want to be here. Also I don’t trust flames ownership to trade him if they are in a playoff spot come deadline. Hopefully they can deal him before December .

I'm sick and tired of the Flames overpaying for players. Let's wait out the next 2-3 seasons, and try and convince players to sign up once the new arena is finished. Why burn up our cap room before then? Keep going on the retool until then, sign players that sincerely want to be here, acquire as many assets as possible, and rebuild through the draft.
I really don't understand why ownership won't embrace the rebuild... what's the advantage in "going for it" every year? Ticket sales will be similar, and even if they somehow made the playoffs they would be an early round casualty. Is there really that much revenue from the short playoff runs they've had in recent years?
|
The bench mark for a 1b centre was set for $8.5 million when islanders signed horvat. It’s no fluke that’s what dubious and schieffle signed for. He will get 7 years at $8.5 million on the open market. That said if he is really turning down Calgary at $9!million ship him out.
