What's the worst that can happen? He gets waived when Rooney is healthy and another team picks him up?

I'm happy to give him a shot, it beats having someone who isn't NHL ready in the lineup too early. Hard to see a downside to this, he's a high energy player, tough, and is only 26 himself. If it fails it's just a league minimum deal and can be replaced easily. A lot of Bruins fans seem sad to see him go.

What is there to retort? Anyone sweeping aside someone criticisms
as bitching and nothing better to do is childish IMO, and I like the move. There isn't even that much criticism, just seems like mindless bitching from Bingo himself.

He doesn't. He was signed to a 2-year league minimum contract last year but league minimum increased this season by $25,000 (from $750,000 to $775,000).

As a result, last year, his cap hit was $12,500 more than last year's minimum and this year's hit is $12,500 less than this year's.

He technically isn't. His cap hit is below minimum salary because when he signed his 2 year contract it was for min salary for both years but this year min salary increased.

So last year he got paid league min at $750k. This year he is getting league min at $775k. Average Annual Value is $762.5k

Then we can all complain about losing a player for nothing!

Ahem...my signature.

Greer is instantly my favorite player on this team. Bang for buck, there's nobody better in the league (literally, because he somehow make less than league minimum). This is the guy who's poster I will put on my wall. To coin a phrase from someone much smarter than myself, "Mark my words, this guy is a beast."

Cheerleader in the room, looks like a Pelletier replacement with size... I kid.
But he does look like the kind of person that will be infectious for the team. Love his size too. I'm down.

Hopefully he obliterates Hyman or Kane at the classic.

Why can't the Flames be like the other teams that have top 6 forwards playing on the fourth line?

On one hand he costs nothing to acquire, has a dirt cheap contract, and only has one year left under contract.

On the other, is he the best player we can put in the ice at the position? He is a negative possession player who takes more penalties then he draws. So I doubt it.

Obviously the GM and the coach want some grit on the fourth line. Personally I was hoping to have a fourth line who could control the play this year. I guess we will see how it plays out.

I still think the Flames are doing Coronato a disservice by not trying him out as a goalie...

He's actually a positive possession player (though against weak opposition), he can skate some, hit some, forecheck some. Has no finish. Typical 12th-13th forward, but with fewer warts than most.

With the salary cap, every team has players like this. What were you expecting to get for league minimum?

I get he is a minimum wage player, but let's be honest. He isn't in his position because he is the best 5 on 5 player available for the role. He is there because he is willing to fight and play physical.

If you are in the camp that you need that on the fourth line then I think he is fine. If you aren't, then there are better options even at the price. Including players in the system.

It's such a toasty feeling to know your number one fan is always in your corner and providing support.

Your mindless bitching about my bitching about their bitching is taking up the same amount of space.

With an injury and two guys on the fourth line that haven't blown the doors off it's a risk free move. People lamenting it honestly seem like they have a default position to complain about it.

I think that's a fair comment.

There are plenty of tools to filter out my posts if you feel I'm wasting your important day.

Such as? Greer is an improvement on Hunt, IMO. Also, we are strongly lacking in size and grit, so that is good. The only people that don't seem to understand this are the guys calling him a face puncher, which is such a lame and lazy comment - grit and toughness are so much more than that

Only on CP does a fourth line league min waiver wire pickup generate 7+ pages of discussion.
