Post season baseball is truly a new season. Did any teams look worse hearse into the playoffs than the Rangers and Arizona?

Baltimore smoke and mirrored their way through the regular season. Their lack of starting pitching is going to lead to a quick out against Texas.

And that’s the ballgame.

I will say the week off seems unfair to the top two teams. The wildcard teams get to stay in rhythm, and this isn't football where time off is beneficial. Make the top two teams play each other for homefield.

Corey Seager sets a new MLB record for most walks in a playoff game with 5.

We are going to see just how clutch the Phillies are. That was a tough loss.

That's just an excuse. In Game 1 you're at home you've got your ace against the wildcard's 3rd or 4th. If it had been the Blue Jays in 3, Kikuchi would have started Game 1 I think. And the home team lost 1 out of 4. I guess you could say that the tops teams were unfortunate that all wildcard series were sweeps but that's splitting hairs.

I don't know what the Dodgers do with ticket sales and you'd assume they could easily have every seat filled. But they always have 5-10k empty seats at their playoff games, with announced sell outs. It's so weird.

Fair point. The game one starter from the WC winner likely hasn't pitched any more recently than the 1/2 seed starter.

But I still think the team that just played has an edge in game 1 (hitters and relief pitchers) and in a short best of 5, one game is huge.

If it was me, I would just limit the playoff teams to 4 in each league. Knowing that they will never reduce the number of playoff teams in any pro league, it's probably inevitable that the division series become best of seven. That kind of minimizes importance of game 1.

You're talking out of your arse here. The time off makes a big difference and the top teams are clearly out of rhythm. The teams with over 100 wins are currently 1-5 this round. If you have made it this far chances are your 1 to 4 and definitely 1 to 3 starting pitchers are good.

Way too small a sample size to say the time off is a disadvantage. Besides no team is going to choose to play in a best of 3 instead of getting a bye.

Good teams find ways to win. Am sure you can find many examples in the old playoff system where teams had to sit around after a sweep but didn't miss a beat in the next round.
