It's mind bottling that this team is so tight to the cap, especially after getting Looch off the books.

True. It felt back in July like there were spots for all three of Pelletier, Coronato and Zary to make the team. That said, injuries are going to happen… I think Zary and Pelletier (when healthy) could still become contributors to the big club this season.

Woof. Was hoping for a youth movement. Looks a lot like last year's lineup which was so unlikeable they were difficult to watch. If you had told me the big change was going to be the additions of Dryden Hunt, Yegor Sharangovich, A.J. Greer, and Jordan Oesterle I would have thought you were on crack. Pretty disappointed with this lineup.

Boy, that roster is... well, it's something else. If goaltending doesn't get figured out it could be another long season.

And they want to throw more cash into that Black Hole in Lindholm? Yikes.
*Awkward collar tug*

You got Coronato. Pelletier is injured. Ruzicka and Duehr get a full time role. Dube with a bigger role this year. How much more youth did you expect?

How high is up?
Lanny's function here is to disapprove of whatever the Flames do. If he actually said what he would approve of, there would be a danger that they might do it and take away his complaint.
As long as he doesn't specify how much of a youth movement he wants, he preserves his option to bitch that whatever the team did, it was not enough.

Yep, Lindholm is a black hole, all right. He shouldn't be paid at all. Doesn't even belong in the NHL. Total waste of money.

Who out there would have expected more?
They worked in Coronato, Duehr is full time, Pelletier would have made the team and they moved Toffoli for a younger Sarangovich.
The team wasn't going to cut any of the veteran forwards or veteran defenseman.
Wolf will have to wait until they sort out Vladar.
Silly to be pissy when the team moved on from bottom depth veterans, and promoted Coronato.
Team is considerably younger.

None of the prospects sent down bring what they want on the 4th line some size with speed. Zary probably made the team but he's not a 4th liner and he isn't knocking out anyone in the top 9.
Outside of injuries the young players who we expected to make the team made the team.
Only thing disappointing is Oesterle making the lineup.

Some people expected Zary in the top 9, Solovyov/Poirier/Kuznetsov in the top 6 D, Honzek to get a 9 game look and Wolf the #1 goalie. Many vets traded for 20 year old superstar prospects. They just love setting themselves up for disappointment, just in different ways than us supporting the expected roster.

Yeah I think that would constitute a rebuild. I'm pretty sure that Conroy said he was mostly looking to see what we have in this group of players.
I thought that no PTO's in camp was a nice touch. The young guys got as many games in preseason as ever. The spots on the team were earned fairly. The only question is Hunt ahead of Zary, but I can see an argument made either way.
We'll see a revolving door of prospects throughout the year. I think we'll see a lot more players come up for a game or two to give the team a boost of energy throughout the year. Zary, Wolf, Jones, Emilio Pettersen, Schwindt, Klapka, Solovyov could all be call ups at one point or another.

Can't really be surprised at this lineup based on the team that went into camp. Look at the Wranglers roster and tell me who deserves it more.
That said, there are lots of forwards whose hold on a roster spot is precarious IMO. Coronato, Hunt, Duehr, Ruzicka, Greer all need to play well to keep their spot in the lineup and maybe that's a good thing.

I'm pumped. I believe they are a better team that a lot of people think. Should be contending for a playoff spot at the very least, the division if everything goes well. Obviously the goaltending needs to be better, it should be. Hard to be worse on the PP or have a worse OT/SO record. The defense is solid. The forwards aren't fantastic but there's enough there to hopefully score by committee and get by.
It's been a long enough summer and being negative about this team all the time is so stressful and boring. Bring it on, looking forward to seeing what this team can do.

I guess I'm hoping for too much. I expected the team to go with the players that stood out and earned a position over guys who did nothing. Zary, Solovyov, and Wolf outplayed guys who made the roster. I really don't care with how many rookies you have to go with. Playing Hunt and Oesterle is just as likely to result in the same number of mistakes as a young player, except the young player has the potential to get better and turn into a better player in the long run. As disappointing as Wolf was in camp, where he looked human for once, he still looked better that either Vladar or Markstrom. I don't see any improvement on paper with the veteran additions and think there are better players who got demoted. I'd rather see the team invest in the youth, that's all.
