When do we find out about claims?
I'd waive Rooney for an upgrade.

I think they could also temporarily send Coronato to the A if they wanted to make a waiver claim today

Rooney is on IR. What would be the point of waiving him? (Can the team even do that?)

All this stuff kinda makes my head spin so I have no further comment!
Edit: Don't think this is possible though because the Flames have already assigned Honzek to Vancouver.
|
Honzek is not ready for the NHL. He was barely ready for the youngstars tournament

Which means absolutely nothing insofar as the starting roster is concerned. If this were an option (I don't think it is, since Honzek has already been assigned to the WHL) the point would be about maximising the cap, and that is all.

Right I forgot about that just saw the roster and completely forgot he's injured.

I think it's about getting as close to the cap ceiling as possible before using LTIR and not about who's making the team.

I look forward to the insane over reactions to that happening even though it'd just be a temporary paper transaction.

Interesting. I forgot they still had another waiver exempt player. That would give them the flexibility to claim Lavoie, although they’d be a little further from maximizing LTIR because Lavoie makes less than Coronato?
Honzek was already sent down? CapFriendly has him up.

Really feels like there is a waiver claim at play here.
Not a fan on Hunt being on the roster though.

I just don't understand why people care. Players that will not play a single minute in an NHL game could make the opening night roster. Players who play out most or all of a season will not. The opening night roster is easily one of the most meaningless documents a team will submit to the League office.

As a 13th forward I wouldn't care but he is going to be getting regular bottom 6 minutes.
It's a testament to our current depth and having Hunt as your 4LW isn't ideal. In my opinion he isn't an everyday NHLer.

Not necessarily....this roster as stated is more about paper transactions IMO.
They are either gonna call someone up tomorrow or make a claim and hope they get the guy.

Well, no.
Like transplant said, this roster is ALL about cap compliance. Hunt may or may not play on opening night. His appearance here is no guarantee of that at all.

If they were planning on sending Hunt down after the opening roster and LTIR are set, you'd think they would have put him on waivers yesterday.

Does it make much difference? Once rosters are set it's probably harder for teams at the cap to make a claim and the few teams below it view it the same. I'd peg the odds of him being claimed at less than 2% if he was waived.
I will say it is a bit perplexing that the Flames are a cap or higher team with this lineup. Conroy really has his work cut out in the next 12 months.
