There is actually a scenario where Halifax finish second.
It requires Pacific losing to Cavalry, Forge losing to Ottawa, and Halifax beating Valour. Halifax would have to either make up the +2 goal differential Forge have on them or the +1 goals for differential Forge have on them as of now.
It almost happened!

It truly wasn't close in the end. We won the league by 13 points! Who would have thunk that after those first 5 draws at the beginning of the season.

Should give the Cavs a goal for every 5 points they finished ahead for next game. Not even close in the end and deserve to be in the final hosting.
I’m just grateful the club is recognized for their achievement this year by winning the shield and getting a CONCACAF champions league spot. The playoffs is a whole other nut to crack and I’m keen to see how we do. Semifinal versus Forge will be epic.
Is there a chance of playoff games on CBC like prior years? Also, it's been 5 years???? It feel like yesterday we were discussing the upcoming first season. Wow.
Of all the games to miss, I'm going to regret missing yesterday's game.
The weather. Another good crowd. A complete dismantling of a club that was so hot to start the year. The celebrations on the pitch. Dozens of photos all over social media of my friends lifting the trophy. With the way this season started I figured we'd be hosting 4 vs 5 on Wednesday night, but now we're the favourite. Did not see that coming.
Now it's time to actually beat Forge when it matters. I want the double.

Is it a coincidence that the year Cavalry decided to give up on Mason is the year they finished top of the table? I know there's lots of other factors but it seems like now that they're not trying to force Mason as The Guy it's allowed other players to shine.
Mason couldn't have been relied on with his declining impact. If they did, this season would have been very different. I imagine Mason rides off into the sunset shortly. I don't see the Cavs resigning him unless he wants to be a rotational vet at a reduced salary, which is highly unlikely IMO.
