It was discussed yesterday in the Game Takes thread against the Oilers that Dube is a veritable sieve defensively, 5 on 5. Maybe it's better if he gets less minutes, lol.

I think Dube is playing himself out of the organization. The team keeps waiting for him to pop but he's not showing anything. He's the modern-day Paul Ranheim. May be best to use him in a package for upgrade.

Huh?
Last year he was 2nd on the team in points 60 five on five. Year before that he was 7th.
What pray tell is he doing to play himself out of the organization other than progressing?

I've always felt that Dube played better defensively when playing centre.
When he switches over to the wing it seems like he plays too tentatively and doesn't actively get involved in the plays enough. He also often gets caught out of position and ends up causing unnecessary rushes.
I don't think he is playing his way out of the lineup though as he is still an effective NHLer when he plays with tempo.

Was that because he was good or everyone else was terrible?
Athletic also thinks he is an issue for what it’s worth.
Another forward in a secondary role who stands out for all the wrong
reasons is Dillon Dube. The winger can help generate some chances in
transition and has benefited from spikes in his shooting percentage.
But he was a negative on both ends of the ice, relative to his
teammates, at five-on-five. He has the lowest Defensive Rating on the
team.

Yeah that was a dumb take
Dube was there to tick the box of being a veteran player so the Flames could meet quota. He has nothing to prove in a token role in a NHL roster vs AHL roster meaningless game
I was surprised and amused to see people taking that seriously
The appropriate response imo is to look at the people having that conversation and shake your head

LOL Dube is the least of this team's problems. If the goaltenders can't get their games back on track it won't matter what anyone else does.

Do they track stats for how often a player gets knocked off the puck? Because I’m confident Dube would top the team in that category
Dube plays with tempo and energy. But he gets dumped on his ass at least once a shift.

I have read some tweets from Scorp where he is also pushing the trade Dube narrative. I am not ready to give him the 6x6 I know Steinberg talked about months ago but I still see him as a valuable middle 6er who could be either wing or center.
If he could be packaged with Ha if in for a legit top line winger then I would be interested. Nylander for example

His advanced stats last year don't look great which is part of the problem - he produced admirably when given the top 6 minutes last year - but the stats show he wasn't really a driver but a beneficiary.
Kadri, and Lindholm were both much more effective away from Dube than they were with him. And defensively he was quite leaky.
Dube+Lindholm: 416 Mins - 50.0% GF - 50.9% xGF
Dube w/o Lindholm: 577 Mins - 46.7% GF - 49.7% xGF
Lindholm w/o Dube: 577 Mins - 55.8% GF - 58.9% xGF (+8.0% away from Dube)
Dube+Kadri: 401 Mins - 47.7% GF - 49.8% xGF
Dube w/o Kadri: 593 Mins - 48.4% GF - 50.5% xGF
Kadri w/o Dube: 681 Mins - 49.2% GF - 56.1% xGF (+6.3% away from Dube)
So yeah it's worrisome to me that the two centers he played most of his time with last season seemed to be much more effective at 5v5 when he wasn't on their line.
I'd be in no rush to move him just for the sake of moving him - because for what he produced his contract still provides good value. But I would be in absolutely no rush to re-sign him, and if a team was interested in him in a package where you could upgrade the top 6 then you should be all over that.

Dube reminds me of David Moss a bit. Versatile enough to play on any line and he can quietly produce if given the opportunity, but he doesn't have any "wow" to his game. He can fill any spot without hurting you, but he isn't going to push the needle either.
A versatile 20/20 guy for 2 million isn't bad at all. I would like to see him pick up his defensive game though.

I think Dube's upside realistically is 3rd line winger. Hope he proves that wrong but that is what I see.

Dube is making 2.3 million... I'm not sure what people are expecting.

That's more of a damming statement about the team last year than it is about huge strides by Dube. If he was really progressing he would be moving up the depth chart. He isn't and the coaches last year also agreed that he wasn't worth moving him up to a better line.

At this point 100%. So far he has not shown anything that makes you he could be a consistent legit top 6 player.

I don't think anyone has a problem with Dube @ $2.3M. Steinberg was vocal on the fan about signing Dube long term. He even brought up signing Dube to an 8 x $6M contract, before he pops. I'm not sure I would be comfortable with Dube at that number.

Haha ok no. I think you have to be very careful about signing people before they "pop", at least if they aren't high pedigree draftees.

I think Dube has the offensive chops for top-6 duty easily. He’s had brilliant stretches where he produced at a level close to a ppg. Problem with Dube is that he never plays in the same spot with the same linemates for very long. That might be due to the fact that he obviously needs to clean up his 200-ft game. He had 45 points last season, and with a bit of continuity I could see him hit 60 points in the next few seasons. Again, just my opinion.
