yeah I don't see him making the team with Pelletier healthy...even now

These aren't your grand daddy's caps...their team is terrible

People think the Flames 93 points was a disaster or monumental proportions, Caps had 80 and were the worst team after the ASB

Yeah, I was surprised how thin their wing depth looks and someone had a panic attack replying to me then listed 37 year old TJ Oshie and Tom Wilson.

I still think Phillips tops out as Austin Czarnik or Ty Rattie, but I guess you never know.

By all reports, Conroy only had the confidence to offer him a 2-way contract while the Caps offered him a 1-way contract. It's not on Phillips to give Conny & Co a shot but the other way around.

I think Phillips made the right call to be honest for this season - with Mangiapane, Pelletier, and Coronato on this roster I don't see much space for him.

The problem remains s though that becasue of Sutter he didn't get a look either of the past two seasons. In the 20-21 season prior to the Toffoli trade, and all season last year, this team was dying for a RH offensive RW to play in the top 9 and he was pretty much refused a spot because of his size.

Now maybe it changes nothing, he never sticks, and we're in the same spot right now...but at least we would have been able to have closure on it. And best case maybe he does show that he can be a top 9 offensive player and either him or somebody else on this team
Then become a trade asset.

Yup. If he wants to play in the NHL, WAS is going to give him as good of a chance as any.

Good to see the Calgary kid get his shot. Wish it was here. Will keep an eye on the Capits.

Neither owe anyone anything. Phillips found himself a team he was more likely to crack and Conroy didn't have to commit.

look at the waiver wire...younger player with the same AHL stats available for free right now.

It was horrible asset management for the Flames to not give Phillips a chance while the forward ranks were filled with declining vets. Speaks to an old school philosophy of favouring veteran intangibles over the potential of youth.

I wish Phillips all the best on the Caps and hope the Flames organsiation has learned from this.

Trey Fix-Wolansky is on waivers as we speak

71 points in 61 games in the AHL
vs.
76 in 66 Phillips

bigger and younger too

I wonder if CBJ fans a freaking that he is on waivers? horrible asset management? Probably not because its not a hockey hotbed. I mean Phillips playing with Ovechkin was the talk of the town and it never even happened other than line rushes in practice.

all this being said I would have given Phillips games last season too that was a mistake by Sutter. They could have answered the questions for themselves before having to make any decisions.

Fix-Wolansky has really only had one good year in the A. Never been an AHL All-Star. Phillips has two 30-goal seasons down there and was the driving offensive force of the best team in the league ... Cleveland missed the playoffs last year. TFW has 44 goals and 104 points in 114 games over the last two years; Phillips has 67 and 144 in 131. TFW is heavier but shorter.

Fix-Wolansky is kinda where Phillips was around this time last year. If he does it again I bet someone gives him a one-way.

Phillips really only has two good seasons in the AHL and is a year older.

Last year they had similar years, it's a simple point. Parsing out the comparison (including all star appearances who cares) doesn't change that.
