Having not grown up in the hockey world, I always just assumed this was a pro-level thing because the guys are getting paid millions and they want them to look like it. People actually make their kids wear suits to minor league games? Lol.

For old timers hockey, everyone showers and no one cares about nudity.

Not so much the people but the coaches or leagues do. If you want to become a professional you have to do what the professionals do!
Bunch of malarkey if you ask me.

The same hockey Canada org that spent years covering up cases of gang rape and sexual assault is now concerned about inclusivity and body image.
What a remarkable turnaround.

I always showered in my swimming trunks at the pool but I was figuring I might as well wash the chlorine and swimming pool piss out of my trunks in the process as well as not care about locker room shennanigans.

Not being able to change into separate underwear isn't that big of a deal. Yes, they are sweaty, but so are you after the game. I don't really see how this changes much, if the policy on showers stays the same.
Have showers (except in individual stalls) already been banned?

That is so weird. Im sitting on a beach in italy right now and topless women and men in banana hammocks are everywhere. Hockey dressing rooms about to be more prudish than European family oriented beaches.

If you play in your boxers, wouldn't it be okay to leave them on? What if you paly comando with just a jock strap? You have no "base layer" Or you have to arrive in the jock strap?

That's a heart warming story.
Although I'm sure this is just an extra perk for her on top of the fun of the game. Let's not pretend a dose of bare junk doesn't register in the opposite sex as more than meaningless flesh.

I know you sweat a little more in hockey than some other sports (though I think you can easily reach a full gitch saturation point in any sport)...I guess the main difference being that you re-use the same nasty unwashed gear that traps your sweat in getting you to a higher degree of stank.
But pretty much every other sport kids hop in the car and drive home and hopefully shower shortly thereafter. It's not a big deal.
Weird pearl clutching here...some posters seem a little too obsessed with how juveniles expose their genitals to each other. Just weird.

We just had an Oil drum full of water in the trunk of my dad's Buick...heating it was...unfeasible...so...well, we understand that cold showers are good for the constitution.
The real problem was drying off.
Sure, you'd get into that Buick and think that the velour would just absorb the moisture, but that could cause other problems down the road, so you had to wait in the parking lot until you sufficiently dried off and only then dad would let you into his car.
It was all very civilized.

Yeah, to me, it wouldn’t have mattered if my kid showered. The hockey bag was still coming in the car.

Zero chance this gets enforced in any way (and it shouldn’t). What a bunch of bull#### lip service to try and make themselves look progressive.

We had our parents meeting last night to kickoff my sons hockey season, and this was brought up. The head coach basically said its nonsense and we will just ignore it.

Pretty much this. I was talking to several other coaches today at my kid's morning camp, and we all agreed, this won't enforced. Tell the kids to be respectful of each other in the locker room. If someone wants to change in the washroom, so be it. Just be respectful.

What’s weird is telling the juveniles they’re NOT ALLOWED, like this rule is doing.
Nothing was forced before. Comfortable showering and/or changing into clean clothes after the game? Go ahead. Not comfortable showering and/or changing into clean clothes after the game? That’s fine as well. This thread is clear evidence of both scenarios happening in minor sport, and that’s fine.
Now though, a 16 year old is NOT ALLOWED to shower after the game?
Imagine how bad the parties would stink if anyone actually followed this rule lol.

I can see it continue for travelling teams at the NHL level. Not so much for bus leagues.

1. The extra perk is getting to chat and hang out with the team before and after the game
2. even if she was attracted to someone on the team it wouldn't matter because it isn't about that. It's about hanging out and playing sports.
3. everyone tries to be modest to keep things conformable.
Not everything needs to be viewed through a lens of sex.
