My understanding is that it was CSEC becoming majority owners of the Stampeders in 2012 that actually delayed it. They thought they could get a better deal if they came up with CalgaryNEXT instead of a single arena.

I have to draw the line at disparaging remarks about sandstone. I love sandstone buildings.

I hope the arena has a similar aesthetic to the new BMO Centre. I know the arena will likely look modern and decent as most of HOKs projects seem nice for the most part.
I just hope the urban design of the area is really good. The current set up of parking lots surrounding the Saddledome is so boring and lame. I know it is because they need the space for Stampede, but now in the new location, there has to be more bars, restaurants, apartments and plazas for people to hangout.

At this point CalgaryNEXT might have been a better deal.
I don't remember the exact amounts but I seem to remember it was a little more total dollars but we would have got the land cleaned up, a stadium and a fieldhouse.

No way...we should make the whole thing out of wood. Make it look like a Log Cabin.
Right now CSEC's spies are tearing their hair out.
"Which is it? Does he want Sandstone? Egyptian themed? Hobby Lobby? Made out of wood?? He's all over the place!!!"

That’s what she said…
Your mom that is.
She’s had more men in her than the Saddledome.

All I can get

Part of the area design no doubt will be crowd control measures, to prevent widescale rioting and mayhem after Stanley Cup victories.
Police will be able to kettle Canucks and Oilers fans into the Elbow River.

Was originally about $890 million in 2015, and the City estimated it later on to be around $1.8 billion, all in (2016). The current version is about $1.2 billion, all in. The current iteration features a main arena / community arena / public amenities, and the West Village iteration featured a main arena / community arena / 40,000 seat indoor fieldhouse/stadium / public amenities / environmental remediation of the site.

I get it and I was being a bit sarcastic but with the city on the hook for overruns this really isn't a great deal. Wasn't the fieldhouse 400M of that with CSEC covering half? not to mention the stadium which is desperately needed.

Did they specify who will be responsible for overseeing the project? I’m hoping with the city being responsible for overruns, it’s not CSEC.

And the clean-up cost the city suggested would get it that high was mostly nonsense.
