The Rays are also kind of, frankly, a boring team. They are exceptionally well run, but that's sort of their MO: they are a fundamentally great team and franchise, but not particularly exciting. A lack of true superstars (and losing your most recent one to being a pedo) will always hurt.

Losing 2 cy young candidates and half of your roster makes it hard to believe that they are a WS contender so why get excited for the wildcard.

Oof Tampa is on the back foot again today. Kinda why I wanted them instead of Minnesota.

Things probably wouldn't have worked out as well for the Blue Jays as it is the Rangers though. We all know how they like to make things harder on themselves.

Yeah Tampa is done. Good riddance can’t even get 20k to a playoff baseball game.

Wow, 7-1 Rangers at the top of the ninth inning. The four runs in the fourth inning simply burned the Rays.

The Rays are trying for a miracle comeback. They have two runners in scoring position.

It is over, the Rangers sweep the mini series. Every player in the starting lineup had a hit. The Rangers will play the Orioles in the next round.

MLB needs to allow players to get evaluated for a concussion and if they pass the evaluation they can go back in the game.

What a disappointment of a playoff round. Zero drama whatsoever.

Massive bust of a first round, all sweeps, no drama, nothing competitive or compelling about it.

Two road teams sweep and two home teams sweep.

hmmmm maybe a best of 5 where one team plays all the games at home would be better? lol

I’d go for 3 and 2. Start with three at the top seed. If not settled head for the other diamond and finish it there. Cut 3 games out of the regular season to make it happen, one less series is all you’d need.

It's not about the season length, it's about the amount of layoff for teams with the bye. They don't wanna sit around and wait for over a week.

I don’t really get why that would be an issue in baseball. You could easily get a 5 game series done and and be ready to play the next in 6 or 7 days. The team resting would have an advantage in terms of bullpen health. In hockey you can get that break between rounds if you sweep and the other series goes long.

Pitchers need to play to keep stretched out. Hitters need to play keep their timing.

Its about the pitchers. They are absolutely creatures of habit.

Using your scenario, the "ace" of the staff would not play for as long as 10 days and that is if you used him in a meaningless game at the end of the year.

Not doable.
