Coleman as a 4th liner seems a bit out of place. He has a big deal, but he is a good player that can provide valuable offence.

Coleman can positively impact the game no matter where he plays in the lineup.

He is still likely to get around 13-15 minutes a game due to PK and will slide up with Backs when the match ups aren't playing on our favour.

Probably Pelletier and play Ruzicka or Dube at C.

As an organization you have to what is best for the club and the player.
Zary has one full year of pro hockey.
If you see him as a top six player and he needs to continue to work on his pro game then you send him down to work on his game and develop.
Having him play on the fourth line because he is better than other bottom line options does not make sense at all.

I suspect it was to give other guys a chance in the top nine. Coleman’s spot on the team is secure and he has nothing to prove. When the regular season starts, I expect him to be in the top nine more often than not.

I honestly wouldn't be reading into the lines at all.

I know the lines wont settle in for a bit but they should be having reps now for the lines they plan to start with.

Mangiapane hasn't looked too good on any line yet this pre-season, not sure how he continues to get an extended look. I'd argue Dube has better chemistry with both Lindholm and Huberdeau.
Still worried about Markstrom, he hasn't had a real good game yet and looked like his old self last night.

Sounds like the D are set - Was hoping Solovyov would have had more of a look but it would appear the coaching staff have given it to Oesterle to start.
Hopefully Mangiapane has, like, 2 more gears.

Funny enough when he was playing much better his game was similar to Coronato's. Hard on the puck, knows how to get into open areas and get the puck off his blade with haste.

They are over by $213,333 now with a 22 man roster including Pelletier and Kylington. With Pelletier out, the Flames are only at 11 forwards. Have to add at least one and that one should be a center. Rooney is the most expensive and puts the Flames $1.5MM over. Any of the other guys (Schwindt, Zary, Hunt, Klapka, etc) puts the Flames around ~$1MM over. Adding two of the guys in brackets would put them around ~$1.8MM over.

The easy answer is Kylington on LTIR. But, what if he comes back? Pelletier can go on LTIR as well I think, but he is definitely coming back.

Coronato and Pelletier don't have to clear waivers, but I doubt they're going down anyway (don't think Pelletier can while injured). Would Oesterle, Gilbert, Ruzicka clear waivers?

Like I said, the easy answer is Kylington on LTIR. Trade someone of course is another option, but not many teams can take on salary without returning some. I wonder what the plan will be if Kylington regains his health and is able to return.

I know the Flames aren't the only team in this position. Waiver wire could get interesting. Not sure the Flames can show any interest though.
Kylington is not coming back.

Thinking that’s going to come more from the D this year. None of the forwards are really bruisers.

Gilbert, big Z and Weegar

If we’re in a playoff spot and he’s not playing like a 5.8m player he will absolutely be the guy that is moved.

The weakest spot on the Flames roster is on the wings. Unless you’re getting a top six winger back then I fail to see the logic in this, especially in that a top six winger will likely be eating more cap than Mang is.

Unless the logic is sell everything then I get that.

I know it'll never happen but...

Huberdeau - Lindholm - P. Kane
Dube - Kadri - Sharangovich
Coleman - Backlund - Coronato
Ruzicka - Schwindt - Duehr
Klapka/Hunt

Weegar - Andersson
Zadorov - Oesterle
Solovyov (ideally Kylington) - Tanev
Gilbert

Markstrom
Wolf

Lindholm is re-signed, Zadorov and Tanev not until post-season, mangiapane, vladar and hanifin for cap + futures.

Win cup. Patrick Kane becomes the Kawhi of Calgary.

Next season, replace Kane with Coronato. Peltier back and slides to left of Backs with Coleman on the R.

Lose Tanev to UFA, re-sign Zadorov. Still have assets from Mang/Hanifin deals.

Even if Kylington started practicing now, I doubt he's ready for day one.

I'm usually an optimistic person but I think his NHL days are behind him. Maybe he can play on an SHL team down the road and be closer to home.
