Huberdeau-Backlund-Coronato
Ruzicka - Lindholm - Sharangovich (Lindholm's best stretch last year was with Ruzicka)
Dube - Kadri - Mangiapane
Coleman - Zary - Duehr

That's a pretty balanced lineup overall and would have some pop IMO.
Have been giving this some thought...

1) Potential for Ruzicka and Sharangovich to click.
2) Lindholm can help both those guys become better players
3) Ruzicka thinks the game well, and needs smart guys to play with (Lindholm)

Could be a great mix.

I love these 4 lines in aggregate. Somebody call Huska!

I also like it because if you're going to pay Lindholm $9M then let's see if he can drive a line as the best player on that line and make guys around him better.

It is nice to have a potential winger like Coronato on the team. Hard not to see a pretty high ceiling for the player so hopefully he can translate this to the regular season. It is always fun to add a top prospect to the team.

Great shot, good skating and a non stop motor a hard combination to find in a player and Corny has it all.

I'm still not sure how he'll stack up against more everyday NHL competition. I'd feel better if he killed it at the Young Stars but he really didn't. He's making the team though. I'd keep with Backs to start and give him some PP time with Huberdeau as the distributor.

The idea of hitting the wall and goalies figuring out his shot though, I dunno. Wheels could fall off quickly.
The young stars tournament means less than nothing. Literally pointless, Poolparty dominated it and he is a bum. He had a great world juniors, great two seasons in college, great pre season but he didn’t dominate the young stars beer league tourny where guys like him are going not even 50%. He had zero training camp and was straight off of a summer break. This is an absurd take. Maybe I am crazy but ive never seen someone use this tournament to gauge anything about a prospect.

Didn't Toffoli have a career year playing with Lindholm? Their line was not the issue, it was the only reason we were in the hunt last year.

I want Lindholm with Huberdeau, if they can't figure it out again this year then we may have to go in a different direction. Assuming Lindholm isn't signed before the season.

IMO Backlund and Huberdeau is not a good combo as Backlund needs to do what Backlund does and Huberdeau the same. Completely different responsibilities.

Kadri and Huberdeau IMO won't click as Kadri just doesn't use his team mates well and is more throw everything at the net where Huberdeau is looking to be creative.

If we want to be a contender, line 1 needs to be elite. Lindholm and Huberdeau needs to click otherwise we will be a middle of the pack team for as long as we have them.

I like this. It also fulfills the Calgary Flames tradition of having someone with a cap hit over $5 million on the fourth line.

I'd have a little hesitation having Coronato on a line that will likely get big minutes and face other teams top defensemen.

I think I'd rather give him the Tkachuk rookie treatment and play him on a 3rd line with Backlund where his linemates will do the heavy lifting defensively and he can learn from them.

Well tradition broken then as Coleman has a $4.9million cap hit

Yea I tend to agree we need to keep those two together and find the right fit at wing. I would like to try Ruzicka with those two. Rosie and Lindy had chemistry last year so maybe it works again.

Some people...
<jump ahead to March 1>

CP Poster 1: I hope that Conroy dumps Coronato at this deadline

CP Poster 2: What the heck? He's leading rookies in scoring with 41 and he's #4 overall in the league!

CP Poster 1: but he didn't have a good rookie camp in Penticton....

*disclaimer - I'm not predicting 40 goals out of Scoronato

Has it been confirmed if #39 is the number he wants if he's on the Flames or if it's just his AHL/camp number?

Would "Scoronato" be a jersey faux pas? Asking for a friend...

Not sure. He was 7 with the Steel and 19 with the Crimson.

But the Steel did take him at 39 in the USHL draft so number could have significance.

I think the most important part is how he is scoring
- Finding the soft spots
- Being willing to get around the home plate area
- Strong and quick release

He's not banking them off people. He's scoring exactly the way you would hope to see him score.

Does anyone know if he finally has his own gloves now? Or are they still Mony's hand me downs?

Appreciate the comparison but the only two things that Phillips and Coronato have in common are their relatively smaller size compared with other players. Coronato has a much higher pedigree, seems to be able to score against rosters with some NHL players and also appears to be much stronger on his skates.
