I've never biked down the middle of MacLeod Tr or up the middle of 5th avenue overpass without a care in the world before. Does this event stop once it gets too cold or snowy?
Some guy snapped off his rear derailleur 5 minutes into the ride going 3kph! He continued a good few kilometers skate boarding his bike.

That was awesome. Wife and I did it, we did bundle up assuming it would be a slow roll. Technically the first ride of the season with the long johns on! What a blast to roll down Memorial, and then due to that traffic jam on 1st street SE making the change of plans and rolling the 5th avenue overpass. Heading down 11th and 17th avenues was super fun too, lots of hooting and interacting with people on the streets.
I believe the plan is to do this the last Friday of every month, even in the winter. Guessing rides may be shorter over the winter depending on temperatures and conditions.

Rescuing this thread from leaving first page….
Anyone know approx timing to when the multiuser path from Bowness park will be fixed and usable again? Lots of earthworks still happening there so I’m guessing next summer?
Also the path connector to the new Stoney extension and up to Bow Trail… heard varying reports of what is bikeable

I'm not sure which multiuser path you are referring to but I haven't been biking through Bowness that often.
The weather is holding out decently so far to keep biking. On the weekend, did one last Canmore to Johnston Canyon before Highway 1A opened to car traffic again this week.
Tried going back to clipless pedals as a fun experiment yesterday. So far it's a nervous nope, at least in downtown/commute. I feel nervous every time I hit a red light.

I’ve been riding clipless for so long, I don’t even think about them anymore. My ankles automatically turn to exit when I’m slowing down.

I haven't used clipless for 10 years, didn't feel confident then and the same for now but I bought a bunch of stuff on end of season sales just to get some variety in riding and I'll probably use them on the Wahoo trainer in the winter. I'm just not sure about start-stop/inner city. It feels really uneasy and I've fallen over at lights before. Left ankle is still weak from the hit & run a year ago.
Have SH-56 multi-release cleats on the bike to make it easier than it was 10 years ago and I bought some used Ultegra SPD-SLs that I'll probably use on the trainer. I think most spin class places use mountain SPD?

Are your pedals set as loose as they will go?

They are multi-release pedals as compared to SH-51 so I did tighten it a bit or I would come out when pedalling. Will tweak back and forth.
I also find I'm not used to the position. I have the cleat all the way to the front of the shoe already and it feels like foot is still too far forward on the pedal based on my riding style, like i'm pushing with the middle of my foot. I will often push the pedals with my toes rather the ball of my feet with flats. I pedal with a very pointed angle.
I did go for a bike fit/physio therapy this summer and he flat out told me the way I've been riding for 15 years is how my body has adapted to fit me best and often time equipment won't optimally work that way.

I have crappy knees, so I just keep mine on full loose. I've been riding like that for at least 15 years though, so I never fall out as I've adapted.

A guy in the Alberta Gravel Cycling group on the Facebook is looking to offload his Croken registration for $15.00 in case anyone is interested. Looks like the weather should be really good at 21C for the event. Know it's a bit of a trek for Calgary folk, but if you were thinking about it here's a cheap way to enter.
EDIT: Now Sold

Sorry I wasn’t specific enough… from underneath the Stoney bridge (west end of Bowness Park) headed south on the switchbacks to Valley Ridge

No issues. Your sealant may not stop a puncture as well, but we aren't in cactus country here. I just run Stan's in my fatty and have ridden down to -27ish.

I love tailwind days.
Although there were still a few bug clouds.
Also nicer with the work bike cage being maybe 25% full versus 95% a month ago.
Downside on todays commute were several pathway “ninja’s” (riders and runners) just after 7am. Even with my lights it’s hard to see the oncomers when they fully blend in.

I have entered the world of indoor cycling and got myself a Peloton. I have been going pretty hard for the last month and have noticed some discomfort in my knees. I am thinking there is a chance I don't have my shoe / bike set up perfected.
Is there anyone/where that will help set up your shoes for proper alignment on the clip ins? Or anyone on CP who is an expert and can help out?

You could try flats and move your feet around until you find the position that is most natural.
I don't find getting expert opinions on the cleat position helps at all. Nothing will work as well as you pedalling and then shifting the cleat a little in other directions until you find comfort with your personal pedalling style and legs.
I've been clipped in since last weekend and for some reason my left foot keeps going numb/tingly so I'm trying to figure that out. Tweaked the angle and stopped tightening my BOA so much.
I went to a bike fitting and the guy eventually old me everybody's biomechanics are different and the fittings can tell you what to do for optimal performance but not neccessarily what is most comfortable based on how your body adapted to pedalling while growing up.
- This might be completely bad advice so feel free to seek out a professional bike fitting. I did mine with Intrinsi as it can be billed as physio therapy for workplace benefits.

well if you recently started a "new" activity and have been going hard that tells me you perhaps did not ease into it so your body could adapt. So odds are you've stressed some biomechanic motion and haven't allowed adjustment time.
Happens to MANY people when they jump straight from outdoor riding onto the trainer...and the trainer (whether it's a road bike on some fly wheel, or a "spin" bike of sorts) does not flex or move much at all. So I'd suggest backing off both frequency and intensity for a little while and stepping up on the effective stretching side of things.
Additionally... yeah your bike fit may be off which could be anything like saddle height, saddle angle, bar reach, bar angle, stem reach/angle, bad shoes, bad cleats, etc...
... and yeah, I do have a bit of experience helping people out (but am not a "qualified" bike fitter).

Where is the knee pain, front, back, side, top, behind kneecap? So many different kinds of knee pain and just as many causes. Could be your cleats, could be your seat height, seat position fore/aft, you could be pushing too hard a gear. If you think it’s your cleats just put them as far back as possible, it’s the most forgiving.
