Was thinking about exactly this. I like the line, but am struggling with how to do the other 2:

Huberdeau - Backlund - Coronato
Mangiapane - Lindholm - Sharangovich
Ruzicka - Kadri - Dube
Coleman - someone - Duehr

Huberdeau's best part of last season was with Backs, down the stretch. IIRC he produced more than anyone not named Toffoli (and at least as well even strength). It's not like he has shown he needs an elite centre to play well. Bennett is OK but not anyone's 1C and Huberdeau manages 104 points. Backlund is a good skater, likes to carry the puck, obviously defensively sound and will either shoot or pass. And he's great with rookies.

I’m loving what I’m seeing from him, what an absolute snipe and that pass from Backs was money. They showed chemistry too on a bunch of shifts 5V5 so I think we have found a duo to run with in Backlund and Coronato. Split Huby up from Lindy and spread the scoring around.

Huberdeau - Backlund - Coronato
Ruzicka - Lindholm - Sharangovich
Dube - Kadri - Coleman

Top 9 looking like that going into the start of the season? Duo’s being Backs+Coronato, Kadri+Dube and Lindy+Sharangovich with the other pieces being interchangeable.

He's like a cross between Timothee Chalamet and a young Gyllenhaal.

Mangiapane on the 3rd line? And Coleman to the 4th?

I really like this line for Kadri too.

Ben Jones or Cole Schwindt in the last centre spot? Maybe outside shot of Zary?

Coleman - Hunt- Duehr

Could switch up Ruzicka and Coleman, and then Ruzicka and Hunt can see who's better in the middle.

I like this outside of the box thinking.

Backlunds been every bit as good as Lindholm and has better chemistry with Huberdeau.

Let's blend the two:

Huberdeau - Backlund - Coronato
Ruzicka - Lindholm - Sharangovich
Mangiapane - Kadri - Dube
Coleman - someone - Duehr

starting to like this...

Me again forgetting Mangi; I owe him an apology lol; I agree for sure on that swap. I also don’t mind Coleman pulling 4th line duty, he’s a vet and can play up and down the lineup no problem.

no matter how you slice it up, you end up with 3 balanced lines (and a solid 4th line)

Why not all three? I say we triple shift him.

This looks perfect to start; Hunt taking center reps for now but ideally we find a true vet to assume that role via the waiver wire. Honestly Zary would turn that 4th line into another 3rd line with some scoring potential.

a Kadri, Coleman, and Mangi line would drive the other teams nuts with pressure...they would lead the Flames in post whistle scrums for sure

If the Oilers can get away with it every night, so can we!

I don't think Zary has shown quite enough yet. On the other hand, he is the guy with some upside. And if you have guys like Coleman and Duehr on his wings, I think that can shelter him enough that you can get away with giving him some opportunity to grow into it.

Coleman - Zary - Duehr

does not sound like a terrible 4th line to me.

Agreed; at some point you have to jump into the league and while Zary still has growth to demonstrate in his game I think having a couple wingers like Coleman and Duehr could help him transition into the big league quicker. I think he has definitely shown more than Schwindt which is a little disappointing because of how Schwindt was presented at the time of the trade as a ‘dark horse potential’ eventual big piece of the trade by some pundits but I don’t think he’s shown as consistently as Hunt. His ceiling though is much higher than Hunt’s and he would be playing behind some big time centers in Lindy, Kads and Backs so lots to learn and lean on from those guys as well.

Yeah I think they need to try to re-unite the pairs that have shown some chemistry.

Huberdeau-Backlund-Coronato
Ruzicka - Lindholm - Sharangovich (Lindholm's best stretch last year was with Ruzicka)
Dube - Kadri - Mangiapane
Coleman - Zary - Duehr

That's a pretty balanced lineup overall and would have some pop IMO.

Yea pretty much convinced now that should be the opening night roster, at least for the forward groups. Hopefully Zary gets one more spin here in the preseason and a chance to slot into that role to see how he looks.
