Yea I’ve thought about that but still wouldn’t mind trying it.
Huberdeau said a few things last year that seemed to be his way of indicating to Sutter to mix things up. Maybe that was one of them..

I agree. It would be nice to be able to mix in a bit of size and "power" to our top-6. Duehr is one of the best skaters on the team, too.

Hunt and Rooney are probably better options for playing on the fourth line; the Flames's higher-end prospects like Coronato, Zary, Pelletier and Honzek need to be playing more mins than they would get on the fourth line.
Besides that, Hunt has had a really impressive camp.

Yeah, those guys are more suited to the lunchpail, 4th line minutes. If they were beating out our youngsters for scoring roles, that's a different story. Both guys offer energy, toughness, and some physicality.

I get that you don't want prospects being groomed to be top 6 playing on the 4th line, but the Flames do have prospects that project to be bottom 6 players if they make it. Like I said, if Hunt and Rooney are the best options, that is what you go with. It kills some of the excitement for seeing a youth movement though. Not that they are super old (Rooney 30 and Hunt will be 28 next month), but we have prospects for those rolls who are at the age where they should be pushing for jobs against veteran tweeners. It's disappointing if they can't.
Having said that, Klapka, Pospisil, and Schwindt are still there, even if relegated to the second group today.

But I don't see what another full season in the A does for Dustin Wolf. He's been there, done that. Been dubbed the top guy at his position twice.
He needs to be play nhl games soon and ultimately should be promoted full time by the end of the season.
|
And he WILL play NHL games this year. And he will be promoted to the NHL full time by the end of the season - if he deserves it.

Pospisil and Schwindt are not NHLers. At least right now.
Klapka, Jones, Hunt and Rooney have been better.

Question: can Pelletier be sent down while he's injured? I know he is waiver exempt, but do you have to keep him while on IR?

I'm really curious what the following would look like:
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Dube
Rosie - Kadri - Shary
Mang - Backlund - Coleman
Hope we get to see it at some point in the pre-season.

That leaves Coronato and Duehr for the 4th line, RW spot. They are NOTY going to slot Coronato into the 4C spot.

It really does confuse me how Dube has yet to be identified by the coaching staff as a player who's skillset is incredibly complimentary to Huberdeau's.
They saw just 51 minutes of five on five time together last year and outscored their opposition 7-0. Dube's speed, transition ability, and forechecking would do wonder's for Huberdeau's game.

This is all about chemistry and specifically trying to answer:
Does Dube have chemistry with Huberdeau and Lindholm (more specifically Huberdeau)?
Does Shary have chemistry with Kadri?
If the answer is no, that's why you try it in pre-season. If the answer is yes you don't have to break-up known chemistry with Mang-Backs-Coleman to fix chemistry issues elsewhere.
If you see chemistry with Kadri and Shary and Coronato outplays Rosie in camp, Shary - Kadri - Coronato with Rosie shifting to the 4th line is totally acceptable. If not, Coronato starts in the AHL.

I actually really like Ruzicka with Kadri. I feel like Kadri is one of those guys that might be able to push Ruzicka when he starts to taper off.

This is exactly it. You at least need to try Dube-Huberdeau together to see if anything is there.
For all we know Shary-Kadri and Dube-Huberdeau have amazing chemistry.
