In no way am I inferring or trying to compare Phillips 1 to 1 as being as talented as St.Louis. I think at this point it’s obvious that he’s not. What’s tiresome is that the vast majority of posters who’ve been staunchly positioned in the Phillips will never make it camp seem to constantly reference his passive style of play as one of the reasons. He’s as tenacious as they come he’s just in an undersized body of which he’s overcome at every single level other than the NHL and he’s a high end performer in the next closest league. I’m pulling for him too, not for a ‘hahaha I told ya so’ moment but for the player whom I am really a fan of.

He was the best player on the farm team last year, and he just left the organization a few months ago. Not that of to track Philipps.

I do agree with other posters that him making the capitals isn't necessarily indicative that he would have made the Flames roster. Part of the problem is that the flames have lots of tenacious energy guys, who also aren't as small. I disagree with the organizations history of not giving their prospects proper paying time though. Philips, and several other prospects, should have been getting at least a cup of coffee the last couple of seasons.

St. Louis got 69 games as a Flame (13 and 56). His second season he was a RW on a team with Iginla and Val Bure (who actually led the team in points) - and the season before he was also behind Fleury. Scored 18 points, not too shabby. It wasn’t like they never played him. He blossomed in TB, no question. But it wasn’t like everyone was complaining here when he was cut loose (after Al Coates was fired) - he’d already been exposed in expansion and wasn’t taken.

Phillips is a great kid and I really hope he has a strong NHL career.
If he makes us feel like we let one slip away, so be it. That's part of sports.

St. Louis was ruined by Sutter coaching when he was in Calgary (Brian), much like Phillips with Darryl.

Not doubt in my mind, Darryl would have ruined Gaudreau if he had him as a rookie.

Sutter's:

He's a Calgary kid, as well. I'll always cheer for their success with the exception of Dylan Holloway*.
As long as he's an Oiler. |

Not applicable. He was referring to Gaudreau when he was a rookie. It's not like Darryl could bench the teams star player.

Only a complete idiot would ever have benched Gaudreau when he was a rookie.

Oh, wait…

What oops?

Under Sutter a rookie Gaudreau likely wouldn't have have seen his 8th season with the Flames.

Come to think of it though, no way in hell Darryl would last 8 years with any team

I think many fans on here will be wrong about Phillips and don’t like that the Flames screwed it up with him and are not being very honest about the situation.
