If you steal under $900 worth of goods, it becomes a misdemeanor with essentially no penalty.

I'm certain its far more nuanced than that and blanket statements like that dont really hold.

While I agree, there’s a growing inequality between rich and poor, there’s also a huge problem with entitlement. People steal the things they think they’re entitled to. If they can’t, they steal things they can sell to buy the things they think they’re entitlement to.

I know theft is theft, but for some reason, I don’t see these thing the same.

One person takes a few granola bars.

One person smashes property causing thousands of dollars damage to steal things they won’t use.

I agree it's a bit more of a nuanced issue, but I think even based on all these posts, if someone steals one or two items it's probably out of necessity. When some idiots in groups come in and steal bags and grab and run situations it's clearly organized for profit. That kind of thing is nonsense and those teenage clowns should be prosecuted. The person stealing out of necessity is the nuanced one.

It's not you, it's the true deplorables.
